Just saw Monsters U.
Solid film, good messages, characters are built up properly. All in all an enjoyable movie.
This one is centered around Mike much more so than Sully (though Sully is still very much a main character in the movie.)
I didn't notice many Easter Eggs which is one of my favorite parts of Pixar movies.

Saw Man of Steel finally and actually really enjoyed it. Liked the build up of him growing up throughout the movie. I did feel it was rushed at times to get to the fighting, maybe should have been 2.5 hours instead of 2. I didn't feel like I was in there forever either (despite absolutely killing Texas de Brazil with 2 desserts after...)

I felt the fighting was always a little gratuitous and the neck snap was a bit much.

Haha, I enjoyed the neck snap. Not a big action movie fan tbh but it wouldn't have been right without a good fight scene in my opinion.

The neck snap seems to be a big issue for Superfans. The rest of the fight was just ridiculous. If Supes really cared about saving people he wouldn't have fought in the middle of downtown destroying building and car ramps with people inside.

As someone who isn't a big Superman Fan... I just considered it part of the transition from not killing to doing what he has to do to save humans.
Also, people are still fans of the 1000th making of a movie? At what point do you just go because of the movie and not because of Superman.

I saw Man of Steel yesterday (the kids were sick, so Monsters University was out of the question this weekend), and I honestly wasn't a huge fan. I'm not a huge Superfan, but I've seen the movies and read enough of the comics as a kid to be bugged big time by the neck snap. It wasn't just that he broke his code of no killing...its that he seemed perfectly at ease with it 15 seconds later after he had a short cry. For a guy with Superman's supposed code, this is the kind of thing that would break his spirit. Here...nothing. Luckily, it didn't kill the whole movie for me, cause I wasn't super impressed to begin with...

Just saw World War Z. Good summer movie. A lot of action, but not overly done. Leaves the viewer with some unanswered questions, but overall left the theater satisfied.

The book left the reader with some unanswered questions, so that's not really surprising either... I'm seeing this today, but the showing I was going to go to is in 3D (which I usually despise). Has anyone seen it in 3D yet? Does it enhance things at all? From the trailers, I can't see how it would...

Supposedly its a straight-up horror flick.

I try as best as I can to avoid 3D.

That's what I figured...I don't like to hear much about a film beforehand, but with all the troubled production getting this thing off the ground, it was hard not to. It seems like the stripped most of the good stuff from the book, kept the title only and put Brad Pitt in "zombies on speed"-style film.

I try as best as I can to avoid 3D. I do too in most cases but I saw Monsters U in 3D (it was good) and I thought Life of Pi was GREAT in 3D. Really depends on the movie. Heard the author was pissed and said they basically only bought the name.

I saw it in 3D...probably not worth it. There is the occasional zombie scaring the shit out of you, but other than that 3D does not add too much in my opinion.

Just got home from PACIFIC RIM.
Almost no one was in the theater but it was a good movie. A few moments of camp but overall enjoyable.
It's not CLOVERFIELD but it kind of somewhat reminds me of parts of it. But I like Cloverfield too, so...

I'm supposed to be seeing that tomorrow...I'm surprised that the theater was that empty opening weekend. This week, I saw Monsters University (blah), Despicable Me 2 (great) and The Lone Ranger (one of the bigger disappointments of the year). So here is to hoping that I end the weekend on a high note.

Didn't see DM2 but I though PR was better than the rest of those.

I kind of suck at going to movies. The only movies I've seen in a theater this YEAR: DM2 and The Croods.
Ugh. The fucking Croods. What a horrible piece of shit.

The Croods was a heaping pile of crap...it is also currently the 8th biggest movie of the year. So...proof that kids and parents don't really require quality to pack the theaters, especially during the slow periods of the year. Pretty sure my kids saw it twice...and got toys.

I'm a HUGE Superman fan (read comics throughout the 00's and watched all 10 seasons of Smallville repeatedly). I was 100% OK with the neck snap. I understand Superman has to have a higher sense of morality than humans, but in a kind of unique way, he did exactly that. He chose the greater good (saving many lives) over saving his fellow man (Zod). You could see Zod was an animal that needed to be put down once he targeted CHILDREN. Kal-El gave him repeated chances to pull back and stop using heat vision and he refused.
Only thing I didn't like was how Kal-El managed to get the upper-hand on Zod. Zod is a born fighter/warrior and should not be beatable by Kal-El under any circumstance, especially an untrained Kal-El. I know he's had the yellow sun energizing him for 25+ years compared to Zod's many fewer (and thus making him more 'powerful'), but fighting skills > pure strength.
