I thought The Amazing Spider-Man was better than Raimi's original. I'm looking forward to the next one with Electro and Rhino.

I enjoyed Captain America and Thor a lot more than I was anticipating. They were both crucial to the Avengers arc (especially Thor) and were very well cast. IM2 is only okay for me too. I don't like Rourke (other than The Wrestler). They had to introduce Hammer but it felt a little Spiderman 3 for me. Too many villains to track. Sometime two is fine but it led to too many climaxes. I did like Marc Webb's The Amazing Spiderman more than most did (but I also really like [500] Days). Wasn't nearly as good as Raimi's Spiderman but I do like the casting of Garfield as Parker (he brings a different cockiness to the character that is needed) and I am always a fan of Emma Stone. Doc Conners isn't as cool a villain as Hob Goblin is though, but can you relaunch a series with the same bad guy in the first movie? Probably not. Thor was very good, Captain America was great, and Avengers was the best of the Marvel movies to date. IM2 is a stinks, plain and simple. The Amazing Spider-man is better than Raimi's Spiderman...Garfield is the better Parker, and I like Stone way better than Dunst as the love interest. All of this can be found in my review of the film...http://www.epinions.com/content_593722510980 I also like 500 Days of Summer...Yet another JGL winner John...

Wow - Amazing > Raimi.. that's ballsy.
I am a JGL fan but his recent roles have worn thin on me. Didn't think he brought much to Inception, GI Joe was a horrible movie, and.. hmmm... I dunno, I just feel like I loved THE LOOKOUT and BRICK more than his more recent work.
Those are two great films though. Pretty tough to live up to that.

Spider-Man 2 is the best Spider-man film, but I'll take Amazing over Raimi 1... I don't know what you are talking about with JGL though...I don't count GIJoe (as I forgot he was in it), but 500 Days of Summer, Looper, The Lookout, 50/50 and Premium Rush were all great...not including his parts in ensemble pieces like Inception, Dark Knight Rises (which wasn't great but he was good) and Lincoln. You put Levitt in something right now, and I will check it out...

I didn't care for him in Lincoln or Dark Knight to be honest.
I didn't see Premium Rush either, but yeah, I'm a Looper guy and of course 500 Days, but yeah the ensemble pieces are killing me.

I didn't even finish Premium Rush because it was so bad. I'm a fan of JGL but not always. I think Inception got him a lot of popularity because Inception was a great movie and he was a solid supporting actor. Looper was phenomenal and I really enjoyed it personally because it taps into the endless possibilities for one person when it comes to time travel. I'm also really excited for the new Batman, maybe Robin won't be such a bitch with JGL as the part.

Saw IM3.
Still processing it. I liked it better than IM2 but it felt a little obvious. If you half pay attention to what the Mandarin says you can figure the whole film out in about 15 seconds.
I enjoyed it and I think the future IM suit will be cool (the one that generates from his body). Sticking around for the after credits scene was kind of a waste of time unless the next villain is from Stark's childhood.
But for a superhero summer flick I was very happy to see it and I'd watch it if it were on TV.

What should I be watching for in theaters if I'm not looking for more action/comic movies this year John? Any suggestions, because I haven't seen a theater movie since.....Dark Knight....not DKR

What a vague question... What type of movies do you like if you aren't looking for action/comic books movies? Do you want romance? Comedy? Little known indie films? The Great Gatsby is coming out on Friday and I know John and I are both looking forward to that...

The Great Gatsby is coming out on Friday and I know John and I are both looking forward to that... Sorry. I'll watch almost anything. I'm not big into Indy films, but most everything else is fair game. I may see Gatsby, as it looks interesting. I saw a preview for something coming out with Jesse Eisenberg but I can't remember what it was called that seemed like it might be good. Otherwise I may try to catch a matinee at some point for Hangover 3.

Ok then, with that in mind, here are the big summer films coming out and where I'm ranking them at the moment: Looking forward to: The Great Gatsby, Star Trek into Darkness (looks to build off the great previous Star Trek film), Now You See Me (this is the Eisenberg-magician movie, solid looking cast), This Is The End (some of the funniest people in Hollywood put together in an end of the world scenario - looks like a blast), Despicable Me 2 (Kids and I both loved the first), The Lone Ranger (I'm torn on this one, but I'm willing to give Hammer and Depp the benefit of the doubt) Don't really care about but gonna see anyway: Hangover 3 (loved the 1st, not so much the 2nd...at least this time they are back in Las Vegas), Fast and the Furious 6 (5 was pretty darn good even though these have basically become Ocean's movies with race cars), Man of Steel (didn't we just have a new Superman movie?), Monsters University (It's Pixar, but I didn't love Monsters Inc in the first place and the studio seems to be in a slump), World War Z (Loved the book, but the film took like 8 years to make, so can't see it being great), The Wolverine (has to be better than the first one) Avoiding at all costs: Epic (kids movie, looks terrible), After Earth (Jaden and Will Smith directed by M. Night Shyamalan, yikes), The Internship (Vince Vaughn/Owen Wilson flick that isn't Wedding Crashers I know my wife will drag me to), White House Down (looks like a carbon copy of Olympus Has Fallen with Channing Tatum, trailer looks absolutely horrific with Jamie Foxx as the buddy-cop style president), Grown Ups 2 (how'd this sequel get made?), Red 2 (same...), Smurfs 2 (keep it going...), Planes (Disney made a cartoon that sounds like Cars only it has planes? And the main voice is Dane Cook? Count me out...) There are some others, but those seem to be the big ones...

Plossl, you left off PACIFIC RIM!! I'm pretty excited for that.
Isn't there another X-Men movie coming out? I thought First Class was one of the best superhero movies I'd ever seen (and maybe the best X-Men movie period).

I thought First Class was one of the best superhero movies I'd ever seen (and maybe the best X-Men movie period). There are several I left off now that I look at it...some future-related Matt Damon flick that might be interesting, Pacific Rim...but I got most of them... As for the next X-Men movie, it comes out summer of 2014, and it will be ridiculous. Bryan Singer is coming back to direct it, and is based on the Days of Future Past comic storyline, allowing them to use all of the First Class cast (everyone of note is back) and many of the X-3 cast (Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, Ellen Page, and Ian McKellan among others have all announced they are signed on). Singer said it is supposed to be a sequel to both First Class and X2, and is the time travel aspect is supposed to wipe out some of the elements of X-Men: The Last Stand to allow for future sequels to both series of movies...AWESOME.

Damn. That's impressive.
Big First Class guy, HUGE Fassbender guy, Stewart and McKellen kill it - there is nothing about that that I don't like.
Good, I am glad that superhero moves weren't just a fad - there are some great storylines there and huge franchise possibilities.
I'd love to see Marvel or DC find some of their lesser known heroes (like the ones NO ONE cares about) and give them some creative commons licenses for storytellers/filmmakers/animators. You might get some great original work that gives life to a character that was basically dead. Could be great for both sides since Marvel/DC would retain merch rights.

I'd be happy if DC could make a decent movie that wasn't Batman related...Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively killed the Green Lantern franchise on the first shot, Superman has been rebooted over and over cause they can't get it right since Christopher Reeves first had the role, they can't get a Wonder Woman movie off the ground to save their lives... Sadly, the best things that DC has done lately outside of Dark Knight are a 10 year run of Smallville and that new Green Arrow show on CW. Marvel is basically putting them in the ground here...Marvel Studios alone has all the current "Avengers"-related films (including Thor 2, Captain America 2 and Avengers 2), plus they have Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy all set to go in the next two calender years. Throw in their "Phase 3" movies (looks like probably the 3rd to all the previous ones, Dr. Strange, maybe Black Panther?) and the fact they get Daredevil back, and they are on fire...Now remember that they don't even make the Spider-man and X-Men movies, plus the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. DC who?

I think Spiderman should be in the Fantastic Four movie universe. He is pretty involved in the comics (I think) and he's part of the Future Foundation with them too. DC really needs to step up their game. If you have Superman, Batman, Flash, Wonderwoman, etc. you should be able to piece an ensemble together that people would want to watch. I'm not sure who the villain would be? Darkseid? Doomsday would be a cool villain in a Superman movie where Doomsday WINS bringing the Justice League together for a another movie where they take him down and bring Superman back. Just ramblings at this point from me

Just ramblings at this point from me He can't...I got a crash course in this non-sense last week from my brother, but The Amazing Spider-man movies are made by Columbia Pictures while Fantastic Four's rights are currently held by 20th Century Fox (if they don't get their reboot made in the next couple years, they revert back to Marvel Studios), so the two shall never meet. X-Men films are made by Fox, so they could have a FF run-in...but I wouldn't count on it. FYI - Marvel Studios just got back the rights to Daredevil, Ghost Rider (no more Nic Cage, thank God), Punisher and Blade...while all of those were part of crappy movies before, I'd be intrigued to see if any of them (especially Daredevil) get folded into the pre-built Avengers-filled Marvel Universe.

Daredevil would be cool.
The sonic sight in the first Daredevil was cool but I just don't care for Jennifer Garner and I thought Colin Farrell was a strange casting as Bullseye (though great in In Bruges).
Dumb about FF and Spiderman but I understand that. They were IPs that were bought before the idea of a group movie probably became a reality.
TOo bad, the FF movies kinda suck.

I'm like one of three people out there that actually like the FF movies...though it is weird going back only a few years and watching Captain America playing Human Torch. Not cool Chris Evans, not cool...show some damn loyalty to your superhero persona.

My wife also really wants to see The Internship. I like Wedding Crashers OK, don't know if I care to see this one in theaters however. I do find Vince Vaughn funny enough.
