From what I heard there is supposed to be a reference to a character that could potentially become the Joker in each episode. In the pilot episode the standup kid would be that episode's reference. I guess it'll go along with the comicbook version where no one truly knows who the Joker is and what event "created" him

That's cool.
But we are in agreement that the Joker killed the Waynes?

Maybe I was thinking of Tim Burton's BATMAN. Wasn't the Joker the henchman of a crimeboss and then took over his empire? I kind of figured thats where they were going here. Maybe not. Yeah he was a henchman to Carl Grissom in Burton's movie.

That's cool. But we are in agreement that the Joker killed the Waynes? Nope. The man who killed the Waynes is Joe Chill. I think Joker is credited as the murder in Batman Forever or something though. Edit: I guess that was Burton's Batman too

In Burton's Batman he is.
"Ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight"

In Burton's Batman he is. "Ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight" Yeah you're correct, I remembered incorrectly. That movie took a lot of creative liberties with the Batman/Joker characters and this is coming from someone who doesn't know a great deal about Batman.

I always liked that duality of Joker created Batman and vice versa.
That was a great change by Burton.

Very interesting.
SPOILERS SPOILERS
So from what I gather after finishing that episode is that Ivy becomes a criminal to avenge her father against the police department. And Penguin is going after Mooney and eventually Falcone? Oh and the Riddler worked in forensics

I still haven't watched it yet...my youngest son has been sick and hasn't allowed me a chance to catch up on my DVR the past two nights. Is the kid from the O.C. a good Gordon, cause it seems like he'll need to carry the show?

My one issue is actually how tired he already looked. He's supposed to be a young up and coming detective yet he looks as tired as Gary Oldman in Dark Knight Rises

guys is this where we talk about comedy bang bang please That's show is so good. Big fan of Scott and Reggie. The episode where Ben Schwartz (John-Ralphio) pretends to be Harrison Ford's agent is pretty funny. Great concept for a show for interviewing funny people. Almost as good as Drunk History.

He's supposed to be a young up and coming detective yet he looks as tired as Gary Oldman in Dark Knight Rises Gotham's a tough guy town I watched it...I thought it was a decent first episode. I thought Gordon was actually pretty good...I don't think he looked "tired" persay, so much as overwhelmed by the level of corruption he was walking into. In Dark Knight Rises, Oldman looked like he was a step away from full blown alcoholism...here, the new guy from the O.C. (someone please figure out his name so I don't keep calling him that) just seems like a kid who figured out Santa isn't real, which seems appropriate for what happened in the first episode. I did agree with the other criticism...too many introductions in the first episode. While I was fine with Catwoman (I sorta like how it seems they are going to tie her and Bruce together since day one), did we have to meet half the Bat-Rogue's gallery as well? I'm sure there was going to be a big initial look-in audience and they wanted to make sure they retained as much as possible, but I'm hoping that we get less focus on future Bat villians in the future...or at least focus on one at a time.

All true. I think Ivy and Riddler will be out for a while. It will likely focus in on Falcone, Mooney, and Penguin's rise seeing as he is pretty old by the time Bruce becomes Batman.

I enjoyed it actually. What a cliffhanger they left you on eh? Cray.
I feel like both episodes have been major foreshadowing and not a ton of what is going on.

Thoughts on episode 2 of Gotham? It was good, as I'm still digging Gordon and his partner, but my concerns linger. I like that they are developing Penguin, but the fact that they are still focusing as much as they are on Bruce Wayne and his parents murder is a problem. I know you have to set the foundation for the city, but you've made the introduction, now move on...he isn't Batman for at least another 10 years, and the show is about Gordon...it needs to sink or swim with more than winks toward future Batman villains. Anyone checked out any of the other new shows this year? I've checked out a few of them willingly and couple with my wife not so willingly...a couple are better than Gotham, some are just plain wretched, but it definitely seems like overall there are shows with more potential than last year's new crop of dreck (The Blacklist, Sleepy Hollow...and did anything else last?) Anyone watching anything new of note?
