For those who like indie films, I'd definitely recommend Calvary...Brendan Gleeson gives one of the best performances I've seen so far this year. Hmm, I haven't heard of that film. I'll hafta look it up. Same but now I am intrigued!

Hey, I watch like five movies a year, so I JUST finally saw Inside Llewyn Davis. Loved it, but it also brought together tons of things I already really like: Coen sensibilities, great soundtrack I'd buy on vinyl, short timeframe, under two hours because we're old, etc.
That's all. Thought I'd participate over here for once.

If I were home this weekend I would definitely hit you up for this. It looks awesome but unfortunately I'm the only major film guy in my family.

100 Most Iconic Shots of All Time
Some truly iconic shots. And some that are more "scenes" than shots - I can't say the "shot" they have of Meg Ryan's fake orgasm from When Harry Met Sally is an iconic "shot," since the shot itself isn't iconic: the scene is. (Same with a lot of the 80s selections they have in here.)
Anyway. Discuss.

I'm not gonna get tied up in the terminology of a "shot" or a "scene"...it would have been more accurate if they had said 100 most iconic moments on film, but they were probably trying to be more pithy. That being said, they have some very good choices, some rather odd choices, and some rather good choices for films where I disagree with the moments they picked (Gone With the Wind has at least three better moments that could have been chosen). Still, I get a chill every time I see the Harry Lime reveal in The Third Man...if you don't I don't know what you are doing.

Anyone else seen the trailers for Fury? Sooo excited for this movie. I think it has potential to be the next big war classic which is something we haven't had in a while.

Yeah, I've seen a couple different trailers for it...it definitely seems strong. I think I was most surprised that Shia LaBeouf was in it...I had no idea he was still making major market films.

I'm not interested in seeing a less awesome version of THE INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS.
Pitt is playing the same character.

Yeah when they released the first still a little less than a year ago, I was surprised to see him. The supporting cast is incredible behind Brad Pitt with LaBeouf, Pena, Lerman, and Bernthal (sp?). And that's just the core group.

I'm not interested in seeing a less awesome version of THE INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS. I can't tell if you're joking... aside from sharing an actor and being set in the same war I don't see any similarities. I'm excited to see it.

Pitt sounds the exact same to me. Feels like he's doing the same character. I also have no interest in anything Shia is in

Did anyone see Gone Girl? I didn't read the book but I saw the movie and I liked it for the most part -- don't want to say anything else for fear of ruining it for others.
On a different note of upcoming movies, there's American Sniper, which looks sick!

Yeah, I saw Gone Girl, I thought it was really good, surprisingly true to the book...when Oscar time comes around, it will get a few obligatory nominations, but it should really be in the running for adapted screenplay and best actress for Rosamund Pike, who was incredible.
