Kevin McHale is a guy that most GMs around the league look upon with great respect and admiration. A true PF that consistently puts up big scores and fills the stat sheet every game he plays. Despite this great respect few GMs come to the table when Kevin McHale is put on the trade block, why is this? Perhaps it's his huge yearly price tag, perhaps its his age or even his terrible hair style (lets face it he aint pretty). 1 GM went as far as label Kevin "a top 10 guy" however with free agency looming it will interesting to see how many GMs are willing to pay the hefty salary Kevin demands considering he literally flakes on the big stage!
Being a great regular season player means nothing if you fall apart in the playoffs. McHale entered the big time 8 years ago and immediately made an impact on the league. 7 of his 8 years he has helped to force his team into a playoff spot but on 6 of those 7 finals appearances his team has bombed out of the finals in the first round of the playoffs in rather dramatic fashion.
Signed by Harlem with pick 3 he was quickly traded to the Sydney, perhaps Harlem saw something they didnt like but Sydney persisted with Mchale for the length of his rookie contract. Each year McHale improved, each year the Kings made the finals. The first 3 year saw the Kings sent home after disastrous first rounds going down 4-1 in each series but year 4 would be different, the only year McHale has left the first round the Kings went rampant sweeping their way into the Championship serious only to go down 4-1. The Kings at this point parted ways with McHale who eventually found himself at Indiana.
Life at Indi started of much like it was in Sydney. Kevin proved he was 1 of the best Power Forwards in the league night after night. Indiana as an organisation was still very young so salary cap space was free and McHales thirst for cash could be satisfied. His first 2 seasons at the Pacers Kevin again found himself in a first round playoff appearance and again in keeping true to form his young Pacers get knocked out of the playoffs 4-1. A devistated McHale came out the next year but just could not get his team to the finals, 2026 would be the first time in his career his team would fail to play finals.
2027 at the Pacers has been full of media stories, a rookie GM stepped and showed McHale the door. Down the road the star studded Washington Bullets were only to happy to gain McHales services as they looked to chase down a second championship for their franchise. Kevin the stat filler lead the Bullets to the division title and again another playoff birth. This time things would be different, this time Kevin McHale would shake off the 4-1 curse that has followed him around for his entire career. This year would be the year Kevin shakes the monkey of the back to sink to whole new low and get swept 4-0
Kevin McHale's playoff win/loss record is currently at: 22-28 (would look very different if not for 2023)
Number of 4-1 first round exits: 5
Number of 4-0 first round exits: 1
Best playoff result: Championship series. Lost 4-1
Playoffs missed: 1
