Just my take on the top 3 rookies thus far through the first month of the season.
Steve Francis
When Francis was selected with the fourth pick in the 2027 draft by the Chicago Bulls, most GMs felt it was a stretch at that spot. GM Seer had mentioned he really liked his combination of offensive talent and elite athleticism. Thus far this season the Bulls have gotten out to a slow start but the play of Steve Francis cannot be blamed for this. On the season, Stevey Franchise has averaged 18 PPG on 54% shooting to go along with 5.3 RPG and 6.4 APG. Really like the fact that he is attempting almost five free throws per game and hitting them at a good rate of 77%. He hasn't quite found the touch from beyond the arc yet but that should come with time. He just recently had a big game against the Cairo Zamalek putting up 33 points and getting to the line 14 times, really taking advantage of the athleticism.
There are still drawbacks to his game most glaring of which is the issue with turnovers at the rate of almost 5 per game which hopefully will improve as the seasons wears on and Francis can get over the rookie jitters. For the future I believe with continued progress in training camp, he has All-Star potential but to really get to superstar status his defense will have to get significantly better.
Dwyane Wade
The first overall pick in the most recent draft, Wade has played well through the first month. Wade brings amazing athleticism to the table and the ability to get to the rim at will has led to success in scoring and getting to the line. Thus far Mr. Wade has produced numbers of 19 PPG ON 53% shooting, 4.3 rpg and 4 APG, to go along with excellent defense, needless to say for his rookie year not bad numbers at all. Dwyane is another rookie who visits the charity more than his fair share at almost 4.5 attempts per game showcasing his fearless inclination to attack the bigs inside. So far, his best game this season would have to be against the Aoshen on October 26 where he poured in 31 points to go along with 11 dimes.
CSKA has struggled to begin the season but with no help for Dwyane it will probably continue that way for at least the remainder of the season. On draft day there were glaring weaknesses in Dwyane's game and we have seen these become a hindrance for him so far this season. He is struggling mightily with both his jumpshot and from beyond the arc. Wade will always get his numbers become he can get to the line and to the rim but to reach the next level of superstar scorer where he can get to 25 PPG and above, he will have to develop some range on his shot. Maybe some help from Reggie Miller?
Tony Parker
The 3rd overall pick in the 2027 draft, many GMs around the league had figured Madrid GM would go Tony Parker because of his fascination with point guards as well what Parker brought to the table. Thus far Tony has performed well for his first season in the league. He was thrown into the starting lineup of a young Real team right away and one month in is averaging 15 PPG, 3.5 RPG and 6.8 APG. Tony has had a bit of a slow start out of the gate but for a 20 year old rookie just a month into his career; we can't hold that against him. He had a great game against the Sonics on November 11 when he scored 17 points to go along with 11 assists.
Real is another team that has struggled out of the gate at 4-10 but they were in the lottery for a reason and Parker hasn't had the time to turn it around just yet. Scoring inside has not been a problem for him using his elite speed and jumping ability. Most glaring weakness seems to be the inability to take care of the ball with nearly 3 turnovers per game and the 30% shooting from beyond the arc which will have to improve so opposing guards do not play off him and force a long shot. We would also expect Tony to get to the line a lot more with that speed and jumping ability so just 1 free throw attempted per game is unacceptable. Tony had a great training camp and he should have no problem becoming a star but he is another one that may need some help from Reggie.
