Pros: One of the best free throw shooters in college basketball, this will undoubtedly carry over the the ABCA. A well conditioned athlete, who also moves at a very fast pace. A lot of the interest in Tom Stith will focus on his perceived upside. A lot of scouts are particularly high on his potentially great defensive and steal abilities. While currently rather lackluster in these areas, Stith showed glimpses of defensive greatness while at St. Bonaventure. His jumpshot is picture perfect form wise, which is reflected in his free throw shooting, but he has trouble shooting in transition or off the dribble. Luckily this is another area in which Stith is expected to improve.
Cons: Lacks any real offensive game, which makes him a bit of a liability on the court. You want your SG to be a scoring threat, but in Stith's case he will likely be used to cheat off of and provide help or trap defense. 3-point shooting range is non-existant, as is his ability to finish in the paint. Not a great athlete, other than quickness his strength and jumping is questionable at best. As a result he can be toyed around by bigger guards who have been able to back him down with great results in college. In the ABCA where players are much bigger, this could certainly be a problem.
Overall: Stith is going to be a role player, the question is just how good of a role player will he be. He has the chance of becoming a shut down perimeter defender witha knack for turning up steals. It would be nice if he had some range, or scoring ability just to make him less of a liability on the floor. Could end up being a solid starter if everything goes right.
Projection: 18-22
