STRENGTHS:
O’Neal entered into league as an 18 year old straight out of high school. As he matured, he transitioned into a fantastic player in his prime. Harnessing elite quickness and explosive jumping ability for a near 7 footer, J.O. dominated in the paint adding in a dependable jumper out to 12 feet helped him become a great scorer averaging 19 PPG or more for 6 straight season. Additionally, his athleticism helped him on the defensive end where he was a good post defender and shot blocker, swatting away 2 BPG or more for 9 straight seasons. In his prime, he was also a great rebounder averaging 10 RPG or more for 3 straight seasons. Good free throw shooter for a big man at 72%.
WEAKNESSES:
O’Neal was not a good passer with trouble passing out of the post. He was also turnover and foul prone at times. Injuries and side issues derailed a career for a guy that was a perennial 20 and 10 player.
