Name: Marcus D. Camby
Position: PF
Number: 21
DOB: 22 March 1974
Age when drafted: 21
College: UMass
Hometown: Hartford, Connecticut
Height: 6'11
Weight: 228
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STRENGTHS:
Already comes in as a solid shotblocker and moves without the ball well in UMass's DDM offense that John Calipari put in, and most of the other coaches have kept. Shows some refined moves around the basket, and can get to the line for a big guy pretty easily...he makes them too. Surprisingly strong for a thin frame, he can alter shots and hold his own on the low block right now. The upside is certainly there to do so. Athletic enough to provide help defense on the perimeter, which is also a plus. Big upside on the glass because of athletic ability...he's a real upside play all the way.
WEAKNESSES:
There are times when coaches aren't sure if Camby has ever played organized basketball before. Blockouts are horrible right now, and he gets routinely beat for rebounds that he should be corralling. He played in the Atlantic 10, which is more of a guards' league as it is...and didn't rebound well there despite his physical gifts. Can be very tough on coaches as well. His jumpshot is terrible, and he would be best passing off any opportunities to use it. He needs to put some weight on in the offseason if he wants to be an impact player.
SIGNIFICANT INFO: Character called into question after Final 4 Trip was vacated by the NCAA. He knowingly took jewelry from boosters and a street agent. Most coaches weren't shocked that he got caught; they were surprised it took as long as it did. Camby can be great in the locker room, but he can also be a distraction. Coaches have a love/hate relationship with him as well, so it will take a certain coaching staff to deal with Marcus.
