Name: Larry Darnell Hughes
Position: SG
Number: 20
DOB: 23 January 1979
Age when drafted: 21
College: Saint Louis
Hometown: St. Louis, Missouri
Height: 6'5
Weight: 198
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STRENGTHS:
"King Larry The First" is an offensive terror. Has the makings of a complete offensive game, and can hurt teams from anywhere. Gets to the glass, can shoot from midrange, and can nail the 3 from just about anywhere in the arena. Can make a free throw (an anomaly at Saint Louis, we realize). Quicker than he is fast, he can defend effectively anywhere around the arc. Hughes can score in bunches. Gets his fair share of steals from the SG spot. Extremely solid clutch player...the kind of guy who wants the ball for the big shot.
WEAKNESSES:
Good technique makes up for average athleticism. Very lazy on defense...and very prone to overplaying the ballhandler to the point where he gets killed on any backcut or screen. Not very strong for his size, which will limit his penetration ability against better defenders. Quirky jumpshot that is very difficult to coach because of mechanics. If he goes 0-10, most coaches will have trouble figuring out how to fix his shot. Ballhandling is also a net negative right now because he wants to make the highlight reel play instead of the right one. Opposing coaches knew that he was looking to shoot first, second, and third and reacted accordingly in the NCAA Tournament.
SIGNIFICANT INFO: Originally verballed to Kansas before family issues brought him home to Saint Louis. The issue has been resolved, so he's willing to play for anybody now.
