Pros: Following a stellar career at Bradley, small forward Chet Walker has had a number of scouts buzzing in recent months. When it comes to the 6-6 wing, potential has been the buzz word surrounding him as of late. Many believe that we have only seen a fraction of the player that Walker could eventually become. Already a threat from beyond the arc, Walker is expected to adjust just fine to the longer 3-pt line in the pros. Many also expect his spot up jumpshot to also improve given the right amount of time. Scouts are also optimistic about the improvement of his perimeter defense as well as his currently modest ball handling abilities.
Cons: Raw potential is of course a double edged sword and should he fail to improve as drastically as scouts are projecting, you're left with an average wing player. His inside game and rebounding abilities leave much to be desired, in large parts due to his mediocre strength. It would also be nice to see a bit more passing abilities from a wing player, especially in this day and age of the ABCA. Neither the fastest player nor the best leaper, Walker's game is much less likely to incite the excitement of some of the other players in this years draft.
Overall: While the "official" mock draft has Walker firmly in top 10 picks (projected 8th), there is a good chance that he could fall come draft day. He's far from a starter ready player, and will need to be given time to develop and adjust to the pro game. That being said there are many who believe that Walker will develop into a long range scoring threat with the ability to hold his own defensively.
Projection: 8-13
