Pros: What's not to like when it comes to the West Virginia prodigy Jerry West. While many top draft picks are stars in the making, West has all the tools to be a bonafide star from day 1. A prolific shooter, West has range well beyond the 3-point arc, and is an ever improving mid-range shooter. Paired with his shooting skills is an uncanny ability to create shots for himself off the dribble. Possessing break neck quickness and excellent jumping ability, West is certain to put fans in the stands as well as wins on the board. West is also no slouch on the defensive end, where he is already an elite perimeter defender.
Cons: The most glaring weakness in West's game is the one thing he can't do much to change, his size. At 6-2, West is extremely undersized for the shooting guard position, and may run into matchup problems against larger 2 guards. While some have suggested the potential for West to be utilized at the point, he currently lacks the handles or passing ability to truly make this a good option. Do not expect to get much in the rebound department as long as he remains on the wing.
Overall: In any other year Jerry West would be the outright #1 selection without much hesitation. The debate over West or Robertson has largely favored West, but only Boston truly knows what will happen come draft night. Regardless of where he ends up West will be an exciting player to watch in his rookie season and beyond. The scary thing is that he is no where near his potential.
