Name: Rod Strickland
Position: PG
Jersey Number: 1
DOB: 7/11/66
Age when drafted: 22 (19th pick of 1st round)
College: Depaul
Hometown: The Bronx, NY
Height: 6'3''
Weight: 175
Strengths:
Stricklands career can really be broken up into two parts, the first which show off the player that he was coming into the league as an All American and the negatives which were the journeymen years at the end of his 17 year career. Rod was a very quick player who possessed fantastic court vision. He was a very good athlete for the time and showed many years of his ability to get rebounds and turn out a fast break with ease. Many of Rods seasons were at or above 8 APG, averaging over 10 once in his career. During Rods prime he was a 15-18 PPG player doing most of his work at midrange or in transition.
Weaknesses:
Rod suffered many a season with injuries so he rarely was able to put up a full 82 game season to really see what he can do. He never worked to improve on his weak 3pt game and ended his career at around 28% from beyond the arc so teams often didn't respect him in that regard. Free throw shooting was question at times for him, but he did finish his career at just over 72% from the charity stripe.
