New York Sends John Havlicek
Beijing Sends CSKA 2025 1st Tom Meschery Glen Rice
Thoughts?
- I may be biased on this one but I think it's even. Beijing gets a superstar to pair with Vinko, I get the cap space I need to retain my core (Gilmore, Birdsong, Myshkin, Zoran) while also picking up a rookie deal prospect, a stop gap SF that I can either use or flip, and a potentially nice pick. I think we both accomplished what we wanted to.

I hate the seasons when I wait around to get a good pick or sit in playoff limbo between just missing it and being knocked out in the first round. It was a bonus to get Mesch out of the Beijing locker room. So as Knicks said, I got exactly what I wanted in Hondo.

It's very likely that it'll turn out even, maybe in NY's favor depending on that pick. Until we see what that pick turns into however, I'll give the slight nod to Beijing - despite the other cap related reasons for the move.

The Knicks are good, but like his time in Harlem, Hondo's not the guy who will get him to the next level. He's one of the best players in the game, but trading "one of the best" for good pieces and a good picks during a year when Seattle's experiencing what could be the last push at superstardom (and Harlem themselves are having a season no one ever expected) is a really smart move.
Moves like this are why I think NY should be second in GMOY voting every year. After myself, of course.

I think it's an even trade for both teams. Vinko finally gets some help, which he needs especially after the disaster of a TC he just had. Beijing looks mighty strong now.

I should clarify: I do not think this is a bad move for Beijing. It's just a perfect move for NY.

Like this both ways. Beijing can make a legit run in their conference now if they can find the right settings and New York stays relevant while giving themselves a really nice asset to pick a young player or trade for something else

I'm a fan of this move. Everybody loves a CSKA pick, but I don't think anybody was trading any young studs on their first or second deals for it. Hondo will give them a good push and it'll look better for Beijing in the here and now, just have to see how good this pick turns out.

Like it for Beijing, I guess I just don't value the pick as high as others.
