Ralph Sampson
Position : Center
Height : 7' 4"
Weight : 235 lbs
Age : 21
Attributes :
SCORING = B C- C F
HANDLING = D D+
REBOUNDING = C+ B
DEFENSE = C+ D D B-
ATHLETICISM = C+ B C+ A-
Sampson is really, really big. And his offense is already nicely developped so he should score at least 10ppg with a great percentage as soon as he enters the league. Not a bad free throw shooter, something scores from mid range.
But he's incredibly raw in almost every other domain ! Despite his size, his rebounding needs a lot of work, his defense is terrible for a big men and he's not very athletic. Very bad hands too. Probably not a starter as a rookie...
Potential :
SCORING = B C C F
HANDLING = D D
REBOUNDING = B B
DEFENSE = A D D A
In the future, Sampson should become a great defender in the paint, block a lot of shot with his size.
But he will never be a great rebounder. Maybe with some luck he'll crash the 10rpg line but he won't ever be in the league top 10. Won't improve in handling either.
High school and college career :
He was completely unknow in high school and ranked #343 overall ! But he had a very interesting year in college, scored 14.9ppg (.501 FG%) in only 29.8mpg and was named best freshman center in the NCAA. His overall rebounding (5.6rpg) was weak but he grabbed a lot of offensive boards (2.3). Quite a lot of fouls (3.1).
Overall :
Very raw and a questionable potential. But he could be a dominant force in the paint if he develops well.
Projection : 6-10
I project him out of the top 5 but I'm really not sure that a team like Moscow lets him slip. A 7'4" big man with a good defense and a huge potential in defense is hard to pass. Possibly a steal if he's out of the top 10.
