Name: Michael Cooper

Number: 21
DOB: April 15, 1956
College: University of New Mexico
Hometown: Pasadena, California
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 170 lbs
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STRENGTHS: Michael Cooper is one of the best guard defenders in NBA history, having made 8 All NBA defensive teams (5 1st, 3 2nd) over his career. Cooper also won the 1987 DPOY award, which is very seldomly given to guards. Larry Bird has said that Cooper was the best defender he faced. In addition, he developed a three point shot in the second half of his career as it became more popular in the mid 1980's. Cooper usually guarded the opposition's best shooting threat at SF, SG, or PG. He was excellent at generating steals, a very good passer at the shooting guard position, and a solid rebounder for his size at 6'5''. He was a very good shot blocker for a guard, and could defend in the post as well.
WEAKNESSES: Cooper was a complimentary offensive player and did not look to create his own shot. He didn't get inside much getting only around 2 FTA per game for his career, and was more of a catch and shoot player. He also turned the ball over fairly often as a result of his aggressive passing style.
ADDITIONAL NOTES: 5x NBA champion. A popular player among Lakers fans, home crowds were known to chant, "Coooooooop" whenever he controlled the ball, and the Lakers sometimes ran an alley-oop play for him that was dubbed the "Coop-a-loop."
