Name: Mychal George Thompson

Number: 43
DOB: 1/30/1955
College: University of Minnesota
Hometown: Nassau, Bahamas
Height: 6'10"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STRENGTHS: The number one pick of the 1978 NBA draft, Mychal Thompson came into the league with high expectations. In his 8 years in Portland, Thompson put up 16.7 ppg and 8.9 rpg, including career highs in 81-82 of 20.8 and 11.7 respectively. Though his numbers dropped when he was traded to the Lakers, he ended up averaging 13.7 ppg and 7.4 rpg over his 13 year playing career. Thompson is still the Portland career leader in blocks and defensive rebounds. He also still holds the record for the most points scored in the first two career games by a #1 pick (60).
WEAKNESSES: Thompson was a decent scorer overall, but he was a less than stellar free throw shooter. While his numbers improved towards the end of his career, Thompson shot 65% over his entire career and less than that in his prime.
ADDITIONAL NOTES: Thompson was selected to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 1978. He also won two NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1987 and 1988. Clyde Drexler once stated: "Mychal Thompson is the most underrated Blazer of all-time. The man could do it all: score, pass, defend. He was legit. Legit."
