STRENGTHS: Nicknamed Dr. Dunkenstein because of his 48 inch vertical leap, Griffith was an explosive dunker at the rim. He made an instant impression in the league and won NBA Rookie of the Year after averaging 20.6ppg in his first season. After a couple of years, his 3 point shot really improved and in the 83-84 season he shot 36% on 252 attempts, where he led the league in 3 point attempts, makes and percentage. He also set the league record for most three-pointers made in a season with 91 which he broke the following season by hitting 92. WEAKNESSES: Griffith was a little prone to turnovers, averaging around 3tpg during 4 of his seasons in the league where he had the most touches, including 3.3tpg in the 82-82 season. Not a great free throw shooter only shot 70% for his career. The latter part of his career was affected by knee problems brought on by his dunking in early years which caused him to retire a little early. SIGNIFICANT INFO: 1980-81 NBA Rookie of the Year. Set a record for most three-pointers in a season which he broke the following year. Has had his number "35" jersey retired by both the Louisville Cardinals and the Utah Jazz. STATS:Ins - 3 |

Name: Darrell Griffith Position: Shooting Guard Number: 35 DOB: June 16, 1958 College: Louisville Hometown: Louisville, Kentucky Height: 6'4 Weight: 190 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- STRENGTHS: Darrell was an explosive athlete and one of the better 3 point shooters in the 1980's. . His advanced stats said he had 20.8 defensive win shares over his career, significantly higher than his offensive shares, so the metrics like him as a defender. He also averaged 1.6 steals per 36 minutes which is pretty good. WEAKNESSES: Not the most efficient player outside of his three point shooting. His three shooting percentage was only a bit over 50% for his career. He wasn't a great passer, although turnovers weren't a huge negative, just not a strength. ADDITIONAL NOTES: It is said he dunked over 7'2'' Artis Gilmore when he was still 14 years old. He won the 1981 Rookie of the year award, and came into the NBA very polished. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ins 3 Jps 2 Fts 3 3Ps 4 Hnd 3 Pas 2 ORb 3 DRb 3 PsD 2 PrD 4 Stl 4 Blk 1.5 Qck 4.5 Str 2.5 Jmp 5 Sta 4
