STRENGTHS: Purvis' main strength was his scoring, during his 12 year career he averaged 17.3ppg and during a 4 year spell with the Warriors he averaged over 24.4ppg, including 28ppg in the 1984-85 season. His offense was based around his superb mid-range game and his signature high-arcing jump shot that was very difficult to defend. This earned him the nickname of the "Rainbowman". He was also very good at getting to the free throw line and when he got there he was a great free throw shooter, shooting 82% for his career.
WEAKNESSES: Not a complete liabilty beyond the 3 point line but he didn't attempt many in the system, although he wasn't too much of a threat from deep, in his best season he shot 31% on 150 attempts. A solid defender and rebounder but not much more, also not known for his passing abilities.
SIGNIFICANT INFO: Once scored 59 points against the Nets for the Golden State Warriors. Ranked among the NBA’s top 10 in scoring three times.
