Name: Kevin McHale Position: Power Forward Number: 32 DOB: December 19, 1957 College: Minnesota Hometown: Hibbing, Minnesota Height: 6'10 Weight: 225 |
STRENGTHS: McHale was a great player on both sides of the floor. He had a low-post game that was one of the best and most difficult to defend in the league, with drop steps, pump fakes, jump hooks and fadeaways. He also had a very good jumpshot with great range. He knew how to get to the free throw line and was a knockdown free throw shooter, shooting .798 for his career. His quickness and length along with post skills made him a nightmare to defend. McHale was also great on defense, being named to a NBA All-defensive team 6 times through his career. He is currently ranked #25 all time in blocked shots. In the 86-87 season McHale averaged 26.1ppg on 60% shooting, he was the first player to shoot better than .600 from the floor and .800 from the free throw line. Charles Barkley said this about him, "Kevin McHale's the best player I played against because he was unstoppable offensively, and he gave me nightmares on defense".
WEAKNESSES: There wasn't many weaknesses in McHale's game, he was a good rebounder but not a great one as he only averaged more than 9 rebounds over a season twice and never double digit rebounds. He also didnt average many assists.
SIGNIFICANT INFO: Elected to Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (1999), NBA champion (1981, '84, '86), All-NBA First Team (1987), Sixth Man Award (1984, '85), All-Defensive First Team (1986, '87, '88), All-Defensive Second Team (1983, '89, '90), Seven-time All-Star.
