STRENGTHS: Laimbeer main strength was his rebounding, a great rebounder on both ends but especially on the defensive glass. From 1982 to 1990 no player in the league had more defensive rebounds. He had a unique game for a bigman, as a very good outside shooter he excelled running the pick and pop, mainly hitting the jumpshot but as he career progressed his range extended out to the 3 point line. During the 89-90 season he hit 57 of his 158 attempts for 36%. A very good free throw shooter, shot .837 at the line through his whole career. Although he didn't have the quickness he used his strength to help him on both sides of the court. WEAKNESSES: Laimbeer biggest weakness was his athleticism with a small vertical leap and slow feet. He was a solid scorer but no more than that, more of a pick and pop player so wasn't known for his post skills and scoring inside. Good post defender but struggled guarding out to the perimeter. SIGNIFICANT INFO: Laimbeer became the 19th player in league history to amass more than 10,000 points and 10,000 rebounds. Can take a punch, he was punched by some of the leagues top players including, Parish, Lanier, Bird and Barkley due to his antics on the court, including his flopping. NBA champion (1989, '90); Four-time NBA All-Star (1983, '84, '85, '87) STATS:Ins - 3 |

Name: Bill Laimbeer Position: C Number: 40 DOB: 5/19/1957 College: University of Notre Dame Hometown: Boston, MA Height: 6'11" Weight: 245 lbs --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- STRENGTHS: Bill Laimbeer, while not even close to a top prospect coming out of college (he wasn't selected until the 3rd round of the draft) managed to have a remarkably consistent 16 year career in the NBA. Laimbeer was the 19th player in NBA history with over 10,000 points and 10,000 rebounds in his career, and remains the Piston's career rebounding leader with 10,400. He averaged 12.9 ppg and 9.7 rpg over his career, and between his prime years of 82-83 and 86-87, he averaged 16.1 ppg and 12.3 rpg. Bill led the league in total rebounds twice and rpg once. In particular, he led the league in defensive rebounding 9 straight seasons. WEAKNESSES: For all of his defensive prowess (and Laimbeer was one of the best post defenders of his time), Laimbeer was never a huge shot blocker. His career average of 0.9 bpg is positively paltry for a 6'11" player. While he often made up for it with smarts and crafty/dirty play, Bill also wasn't the most athletic player the world has ever seen ADDITIONAL NOTES: Bill Laimbeer was a 4-time All-Star, as well as a two-time NBA champion with the Detroit Pistons. He also is a 3-time WBNA championship winning coach and WBNA coach of the year, so when he retires he should definitely have a career in the game in coaching. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ins 3 Jps 4 Fts 4 3Ps 3 Hnd 3 Pas 2 ORb 4 DRb 5 PsD 5 PrD 2 Stl 3 Blk 3 Qck 2 Str 5 Jmp 3 Sta 5
