Pros: Connie is a New York City playground legend. Like most playground legends, Connie relies on his immense athletic skill to do a lot of damage. He can jump out of the gym, while still being strong enough to hold his own in the post. He looks to have great potential as a scorer in this league. He has good form on his jump shot, leading many to believe that he can develop a consistent one to go along with his post game. He has a reliable passing game for a big man, not exceptional, but above average. Mostly his athleticism leaves him tremendous room for growth as a player, where his scoring and rebounding should improve rapidly.
Con: Hawkins is a very raw player at this stage in his career. Due to a point shaving incident, Connie was deemed ineligible at Iowa and that year off may have not only hindered his development, but brought up concerns about his character as well. Besides being a high level athlete there is nothing The Hawk does exceptionally well at this stage of his career. While there is nothing wrong with not being completely polished, it is nice to come into the league with one league ready skill. Connie also does not seem like he is going to be an impact defender at this level. He could be solid, but likely wont put up big defensive numbers.
Overall: This playground legend comes in as most do, with a lot of flash and not as much substance. Luckily he still has a ton of room to grow and a lot potential to become an impact player. WHile he is not in the first, or likely second tier of prospects, it wouldnt shock me if he made a big jump and ended up being successful.
Projection: 4-8
"They claimed he broke the laws of gravity. 'Someone said if I didn't break them, I was slow to obey them,' he told the Philadelphia Inquirer."
