MEL DANIELS #34 PF | 6-9, 230lbs | 7/20/1993 (22) College: New Mexico | Detroit, MI
PROS: Mel can step on the court right now and give you solid minutes. His strong post moves helped him drop 16 ppg in college. Combine his scoring ability with his natural talent for rebounding and you've got a nice skill set to build around. Fortunately he's no slouch on defense too. He already plays well enough not to embarrass himself or be a liability to the team. Mel is a gifted leaper. Not many bigs can jump like him. Should help him in a few areas.
CONS: Daniels has good upside but where he isn't going to shine is defensively. Again, he's not a scrub on defense but if you don't have a Center who can defend then you're going to have some issues against elite post players. Because of his lack of strength he may get bullied in the paint a bit. Those are all issues that can be fixed with some off-season training though.
OVERALL: Mel Daniels looks like a legit Power Forward prospect. Fluid scorer, natural rebounder, decent defender, and a good athlete - it sounds like a winning combination for those picking high in this year's draft. The only person who obviously out talents him is Elvin Hayes and he's a lock for #1.
PROJECTION: 2-5
