Player Potential Index: Part 2

I thought after looking at averages for attributes, I would do the same for potential. I took any player that averaged more than 25 MPG then divided them by position. I assigned each grade a value; A(1), B(2), C(3), D(4), F(5) added them together then averaged them to get an idea what a starter's potential should be. Because there wasn't that much difference between the values I included the numbers to show how close it is to being another grade. The table is actually quite similar to the attribute average, which is below.

Analysis: It's interesting to look at how similar everything is distributed between attributes and potential. Also, how the differences between them are similar across the board.

Players with Most Potential
Because there isn't that much difference between players potential, there are no distinct player at the top of each position. Also, there were only a few players that had positive difference between their potential and the average, this is probably due to there being no rounding up or down, so many of the potentials are inflated. Also, the formula I used for the players is slightly different, so the numbers don't equate quite to everything I've said. Honestly, some of the rankings baffled me.

Yeah, potential are confusing because they only use whole letters.

So if a guy is B+ and his potential is a B.

It's weird but makes it a bit tougher to scout, which I kind of like.

I agree. What's more, the gap between letters becomes more important. If a player is scouted at B+ but is really A-, it will show as B. So you could have players with B potential that are actually going to be A-.

I understand. The only behind this was more to get an idea what an average starter's potential should be. Since, this is a new game I thought it would be interesting get a gauge of an average. There is a bit of a correlation between this article and the other one.

I know this is all based on ratings but Sauro Bufalini has to be up there (esp. after I send him to Hakeem camp this off season.)

Somehow my team plays better with him starting than Monk Meineke, he has one of the league's best shooting percentages at 55% and routinely turns in double digits in points and rebounds.

I think you guys are reading too much into the player rankings. I honestly, was dissatisfied with the results. I tried to use different formulas to get rankings that made sense, but I settled on this. I threw the player part in because I had so much date. To me the average is the thing that is useful, it atleast gives an idea of what a starter's potential should be. The numbers are inflated, but a lot of the categories you can round down and they make sense.

As for Sauro, I like him, but if you look at his potential he has a lot in inside and rebounding, outside of that he doesn't have much, which probably hurt him.
