Just seein who else here disc golfs. I've been doing it for a few years now and I've hit my stride this year. Ive gotten a lot better in general and I've been making my way to some pay & play courses near the cities here in Minnesota. We have a few of the better parks in the country and the two I went to were nothing short of amazing. I drive with a Valkyrie, I Midrange with a Buzz, and Putt with an MVP Ion. Everything I throw goes strait It's an awesome hobby and something fun to do with kids if you have any. Good excersize, very cheap, and another reason to go outside.

Used to love disk golf, but fell out of it when we moved to Sioux Falls (we didn't have a course set up, yet.) I used to spend a lot of time at Riverside Park in St. Cloud (which was established in 1985, well before the recent explosion). It's a nice little park course.
Now we have several, but I just haven't gotten into it again.
A friend of mine has been working the amateur circuit lately. I have no idea if he's good or not, but I DID find out that there is, in fact, an amateur circuit, apparently.

Always wanted to try it but down south in summer = no chance.
In winter, busy with basketball.

Very nice. I actually go to Riverside quite often. I also go to Calvary and they made a pretty nice 18 pin course in St. Joseph. I agree though, there has been quite the explosion in interest in the last few years, but I can't say I'm upset about it. They are making a ton of new disks as well as courses so its growing on the right ways. I didn't know they have an amateur circuit either haha. Ya learn something new everyday haha. You should consider trying it out again sometime, you might enjoy it

I just went on the St. Cloud Disk Golf page just for some good memories and it looks like they turned Calvary into a 12-pin course because of water tower construction. Bummer.
If I remember, Calvary was the harder of the two, but it was always so incredibly busy. I lived a few blocks from Riverside, so that's where I would spend most of my time - six-pack of cans in my disk bag and three beat up frisbees.
I was horrible. But, then again, that's not the point of disc golf.

The Riverside park course is used for Nationals sometimes.
I enjoy Disc Golf but I'm not terribly good at it. I have friends who just kill it off the tee and I don't seem to have that kind of range. I'd good close but some of those holes at Riverside require you to be a driver.

I didn't hear about Calvary til now but I'm ok with that. I usually only play that course as a 14 hole couse because those pins in the woods are so damn rough haha.
I hear you both loud and clear though. This is my 3rd year disking and I'm finally getting over the hump to where I can drive pretty well and I've gotten pretty good at lengthy puts. It's really tough to get it down good but you just have too keep going and you really need to get your technique down. It's also hard because the disk you use makes a huge difference, for example: I use a Valkyrie which has stats of 9/4/2/-2 which means I throw my disk a lot slower then most people (they usually try to power throw a 12 or 13 speed disk) and mine just goes nice and slow and very strait. Learning more about the numbers and just throwing disks more, you really get an understanding on how it works for you individually.
Either way Boston has the right idea, its nice to disk well but that's really not the point of it all.

I play some during the summer, but can't get sufficiently into it as I can't play during the school year because it requires a completely different throwing motion than whats used in ultimate and can mess up in-game throws if played too much. Sounds nerdy yes, but its true.

Yeah, you're right. Being good isn't the point.
It's a fun activity though.

Sounds nerdy yes, but its true. It is nerdy, but throwing a regular Frisbee is a lot different then a disk. I feel stupid when I try to throw a regular Frisbee because the motion is different and I tend to throw it too flat so it pulls hard almost immediately.

didnt realize how popular this was There is a lot of people who play. I'd say maybe 10-15% of the population in the city where I live play. That's probably a little high, but you get the idea.

St. Cloud is pretty much a college town so there are a ton of people who disc around here. I actually went last night and there were probably 20-30 people at Calvary.

Yeah. And because Riverside usually doesn't get their baskets up until after Memorial Day, Calvary is usually SUPER PACKED during the first warm days of late spring/early summer when students are still around. I'd just play Riverside without the baskets.

Lol that's humorous. That's usually how it goes but it was winter forever and then a month of strait rain so you couldnt disk much until June hit. Ill probably go again today, its nice out.

It's super nice today. Actually this whole week would be ideal disking conditions.
I'm pretty sure the VA also has a course. I know I've seen some other ones around town.
Sartell has one kind of by their schools.

Yeah there is one at the VA, one in Waite Park, one in Sartell, one in Sauk Rapids, and one in St. Joseph. I went to VA quite a bit last year but I haven't really this year. Maybe that's where I'll play today.
