Yesterday there were a flurry of trades, mostly done by Seer, so I figured I would write a quick article grading the 4 deals of the day:
New York Sends
Tyrone Hill
Harlem Sends
Aleksander Belov
2029 Harlem 1st Rounder
If you just looked at the stats from before this trade you would ask yourself, “How could a guy in Tyrone Hill who has barely played this year, fetch a potential lottery pick?” Fair question. Well there are a couple things in play here. First of all Hill is going to resign for almost nothing. Secondly, he was a key cog on last year’s champion. That leads us to the reason why he got no playing time, he was on the best team in the league. Just because there are better players on your team doesn’t mean you have no value. Hill is a rock solid big man.
For the Knicks this is a pretty clear cut move. They are taking a shot on a possible lottery pick for a guy who was getting no burn at all. Would Hill’s future tiny contract have helped for team building? Yeah sure, but the 1st rounder is going to have a similar salary. It’s a GM taking a shot at a great player by giving up a good one.

Toronto Trades:
Stephon Marbury
Emeka Okafor
Shawn Marion
Sidney Green
Jayson Williams
Chicago Trades:
Allen Iverson
Larry Nance
Walt Williams
Calbert Cheaney
Matt Geiger
This is the beginning of Seer’s trade onslaught if I have the time’s correct here. I will start off by saying that I will judge Seer’s trades individually, but will have a note at the end for his moves as a whole.
I think this specific trade was an absolutely great one for Chicago. While Iverson is the best player in this deal, the difference between him and Marbury isn’t extremely vast. To make up that difference, Chicago got back 2 solid young prospects in Marion, who although his stock has cooled since he was drafted is still a nice young piece, and Okafor who is a project big man, but one with a chance to start. That is all before we mention the fact that he got back Sidney Green, a starting quality big man on a great contract.
Toronto did get the best player in the deal which is always nice, but there are a couple caveats. As stated above, they gave up a lot. The major thing though, is that Francis and Iverson were already a spectacular failure last year together.
After the first sim, the Berlin GM was overheard saying, “I mean, you have to figure Iverson alone hasn't been bad this year, but together there are like kryptonite to wins.”
It just does not seem like a good roster fit for Toronto. The “Craptors” as the Sydney Kings GM loves to call them, now get to give more playing time to their crown jewel Hank Gathers, but it came at the cost of a lot of depth.

Alba Trade:
Dr J
Tom Barker
Bulls Trade:
KAJ
Richard Jefferson
James Edwards
Bulls 31 1st
A much simpler trade. One I do not like nearly as much for Seer as the last one. I think Kareem is still a more useful player than Dr. J, so Alba getting other stuff with Kareem makes this a clear win in my book.

Chicago: C+
Chicago Trades:
Sidney Green
Shawn Marion
London Trades:
Karl Malone
Josh Howard
London 31 1st
The long day of trading comes to a close with a late night move between two guys with a long trading history. As we have seen over the history of the league, London’s 1sts are going to be near the bottom of the round. Josh Howard was just one of those picks. These guys always have a chance, but the rate of panning out is not nearly as high that low in the draft so these two pieces besides Malone are not that significant. The biggest London will feel the loss in those two pieces, is without his 1st this year, London cant make another deal involving their 1sts without receiving picks back. So it mostly is Malone for Sidney Green and Marion and overall I have to say, I think it is a pretty even trade on both sides. I can see why both teams would make this deal. London gets a starter on a good contract and a young guy in Marion who as I spoke about above, is a good prospect. He is also one that fits well with what London usually likes to do.
Chicago in his final trade of the day takes two of the pieces he got in the Allen Iverson deal and flips them for one of the top Power Forwards in the league.

Chicago: A-
Overall Chicago Analysis:
As you can clearly tell I liked 2 out of the 3 moves by Chicago yesterday. I think his team would’ve been better off without the Kareem deal, he now lacks a true center, one that Malone can thrive playing next to. I have to say in the end I think it was a net positive.
