COACH VANOVER FEELS THE HEAT
Raptors Head Coach Charles Vanover failed to appear at his press conference following another disapointing effort against the improved, but beatable Bayi Rockets. For the second straight season, Toronto's adopted winter past time has let the fans down after a promise filled offseason. The reluctance is understandable yet extremely significant; One could confidently draw the conclusion that Vanover and others in the Raptors front office are simply out of answers.
"Captors #1 in turnovers, who would have guessed that"
- Sydney
The fan base, like in any passionate sports city is divided on many things. One thing they are united on is the foul taste the last few seasons have left in their collective mouths. The first three seasons of the current front office could be chalked up to rebuilding, but what has happened to the last two? The narrative from the front office, especially General Manager GP, has been that they've provided more than enough talent to get into the playoffs. Unfortunately, the fans have fell for it each of the last two seasons. GP infamously stated that he expects the Raptors to be a playoff team during a seasons ticket holder event in the summer, unfortunately for their dreams got crushed pretty early in the season. Now the city is collectively wondering if maybe their General Manager is just that out of touch with reality.
"MRR is going to be top 3 in assists"
- Toronto
But here is where the fan base is also divided. A large portion of the fans, as well as media members who cover the Raptors closely believe that the talent on the court is better than their record shows. Readers may recall that a few insiders predicted the Raptors to win over 50 games at the on set of last season, in an exclusive front office poll. The mega-hype was evident by the record setting ticket sales. Toronto set the record for fastest season ticket sell out in ABCA history. Combine that with the record for fastest crushed dreams and you have a recipe for a very angry fan base.
An angry, depressed and divided fan base has a lot of questions. The tension can only build when the head coach avoids the local press pool.
General Manager GP is scheduled to talk to the media tomorrow afternoon, hopefully we can all get some clearification on his evaluation of Coach Vanover up until now.
