At the start of the season Gerald Wilkins was simply currency in trade agreements. Wilkins now onto to his sixth ABCA roster in as many years has been hand balled from 1 terrible team to the next. Being drafted at number 21 by a woeful Boca Juniors team that failed to make playoffs he was sent packing to a number of different teams before settling down at the Titans for 3 season where he had to sit through dreadful season after the next watching his team win just 60 games in those years. Titans coach was vocal when Wilkins was traded to the Pacers saying he was a terrible small forward as he reminisced back to the period when Wilkins was a Titan. After his painful stay at the Titans Gerald Wilkins was in for even more pain being sent to the basket case of the league at the time Milan Olympia which managed a staggering 8 wins for the entire 2026 season. New management at Milan may be credited for perhaps putting Gerald Wilkins through a training camp like none other but Gerald was soon packing his bags for a new destination.
This time things would be different for the underrated Wilkins. He stepped into a proud franchise, clean locker rooms, a winning culture with a desire to succeed and for the first time full confidence was placed in Wilkins to get the job done, play his roll well and help push the Pacers into the playoffs which in the end was an ultimate success. For the first time in Gerald's career his value was truly noted beyond a dollar value.
The true measure of Gerald Wilkins success is in his continual improvement of his game. In his early years he played good minutes compared to his ability at the time and struggled to put meaningful games in the record books which is perhaps where the bad rap on Gerald Wilkins comes from. A lesson for all here is to be patient with young draftees and give them the time they need to develop. Wilkins is a success story and the question is just how many other stars are out there acting as ball boys?
