Not long ago we started see Phil Jackson on the boards, an old gm who visits daily but for some reason has yet to return. After a time I started having a little fun looking at our current gms and trying to decide which current or former nba coach each gm reminded me of. That said I put this little article together, first we go with the gm's of the America's and a few former American gms tossed in at the the end. Remember this is for entertainment purposes only so feel free to discuss, make fun of, get mad at, whatever.. In the end it was just me having a little fun. Eurasia gm's will come in the next day or two, or three
Boston - Paul Westphal
When hired this is a guy that looks like he's going places, a hot name coming in. After awhile however it gets to the point where, wait I thought this guy was going places?!
Chicago - Flip Sanders
Switched teams a few times over the years, makes moves both marveled and ridiculed. In the end is he a mad genius, or simply mad?
Mexico City - Jerry Sloan
The old vet who's with the same team since the dawn of time. Great coach, never seems to win the big one, or a gm/coach of the year award, though he's been close a few times.
Detroit - Vinny Del Negro
An underrated mis-understood coach who just was never really given the chance to go places, or a coach who just is not that good even with a few chances at different teams. U decide.
Toronto - Mike D'Antoni
Wants to run and gun and be like seattle, Problem is he's given great players at times, deals great players at time, at the end of the day is he a capable coach, incompetent or just unlucky.
NYK - Dr. Jack Ramsey
This guy knows the game, great coach, wins but can also help others dissect and give good commentary/ feedback to those that want it.
76ers - Stan Van Gundy
Better known as the brother of that other guy, every so often does something that makes him look fine only to stay in the shadows eventually guys forget he's even still in the league.
Lakers- Rudy Tomjanovich
Ok so the gm/coach has yet to win the big one, but like Rudy T both make there living and reputation off one guy, the dream. As he goes so goes the lakers..
Boca- No Gm at press time.
Seattle - Greg Popovich
Great coach, wins a lot. Has a system that he clearly runs, finds players to fit that system to be successful.
SA - Rick Carlisle
Another kinda behind the scenes coach, but do not sleep on him, he's solid, puts good teams together and wins games.
Brazil - Kevin McHale
You look and talk to the guy and sometimes you think, man this is a good coach taking his team in the right direction. Old school, no nonsense. Or is it that he just has no sense?
Washington - K.C. Jones
A pretty quiet but yet very confident coach/ gm. He's typically looking to win and puts together solid teams.
Harlem - Don Nelson
Old guy who can win some games but sometimes his moves are questioned, his system changed who knows.. At least we know the guy wants to win even if we're not sure how he's going to do it each year.
Indiana - Billy Donovan
The new guy, not a ton known about him, been successful in other leagues but does anyone know what he will do here? Not yet.
SF - Doc Rivers
A proven winner as a player, he's won in a relatively short time here, can he maintain his success, did he find lightning in a bottle the first time round, can he continue to win. Odds are yes, but we shall see.
OLD GMS OF NOTE
JoeW - Chuck Daly
Winning gm/coach with a great rep, overall nice guy who stepped away from the game, thing with him, he could step back anytime.. Has the game passed him by?
Shawn Cro - Bill Fitch
Won a lot of games, kinda stubborn, cranky, hard headed but in the end very solid at what he does.
Dave - Erik Spoelstra
Was it the team given to him, or did they win cause of the coach/ gm?
Old Bulls- Phil Jackson
Not really sure he fits this completely but this is what inspired the article so ill go with it. Like Phil will the gm ever make his comeback? Is he just waiting for the perfect/right situation? Or did he live off a hall of famer or two?
