Position | London | Istanbul | Advantage |
C | Robert Parish - Averaging 15.0 ppg, 9.7 rpg, 2.3 bpg since joining the Towers midway through the season - Championships: 1 - Advantage over Brickowski is his defence | Frank Brickowski - Averaging 18.2 ppg, 8.7 ppg, 1.0 bpg - Championships: 1 - Led the league in 3-point field-goal percentage - Advantage over Parish is his scoring ability, especially his 3-point ability | London Brickowski is having an outstanding year on the offensive end, with career highs in points, rebounds, assists, and field-goal percentage. Both have a ring. But I'm giving this to Parish. His defence should be able to contain Brickowski, even if Parish gets stretched out to the perimeter, as his defence is still very solid on the outside. Brickowski's defence is a bit suspect. |
PF | Karl Malone - Averaging 19.7 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 1.3 spg - Championships: 0 - Advantage over Jelovac is his post defence and athleticism | Vinko Jelovac - Avergaing 20.5 ppg, 9.4 rpb, 3.8 apg - Championships: 0 - Advantage over Malone is his ability to score from the outside | Istanbul This is by no means a clear cut advantage, however, the difference in this matchup could be Jelovac's outside scoring versus Malone's outside defence. Depending on the defence London throws and Istanbul, if Malone gets caught on the outside guarding Jelovac, he's in trouble. |
SF | Michael Jordan - Averaging 27.7 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 5.3 apg - Championships: 0 - Advantage over King is pretty much everything, mostly his scoring ability and athleticism | Bernard King - Averaging 16.7 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 3.2 apg - Championships: 0 - Advantage over Jordan... not much. Slightly a better inside defender than MJ | London No doubt about it, look for MJ to destroy this matchup. This could be an embarassing series for King. |
SG | Mario Elie - Averaging 16.4 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 4.1 apg, 2.4 spg - Championships: 1 - Advantage over Gaze is his defence, stealing ability and athleticism | Andrew Gaze - Averaging 13.9 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 3.8 apg - Championships: 0 - Advantage over Elie.. nothing | London Elie shows his worth on the defensive end more so than on offence. Look for Elie to shut down anyone he faces on Istanbul. |
PG | Pee Wee Kirkland - Averaging 10.3 ppg, 4.8 apg, 1.1 spg - Championships: 0 - Advantage over Porter is his ability to get to the basket, and the way he protects the ball | Terry Porter - Averaging 13.6 ppg, 7.5 apg, 4.3 rpg, 2.2 spg - Championships: 0 - Advantage over Kirkland is his defence and stealing ability | Istanbul While Kirkland is much better at protecting the ball at the guard position, overall Porter is the better player. Kirkland is a major liability on the defensive end, while Porter is a ballhawk. If Istanbul has any chance of winning the series, this matchup will need to be exploited |
Overall, the advantage goes to London. It should be an easy series for the Towers, but don't be surprised if Istanbul puts up a fight. MJ will be too strong and Istanbul just doesn't have the fire power to respond.
