Name: Eddy Curry
Position: C
Number: 34
DOB: December 5, 1982
Age when drafted: 18
College: (drafted out of high school) Thornwood High School
Hometown: Harvey, Illinois
Height: 7'0"
Weight: 295lbs
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STRENGTHS: Straight out of high school, Curry was draft 4th overall by his hometown Chicago Bulls. There were high hopes for Curry, and why not; he had the potential to be the next dominant big man in the NBA. He had size similar to Shaq (albeit he was more bottom-heavy than Shaq...) and had solid coordination with the ball. His career however never matched the expectations. He only had one good season in the league, averaging 19.5PPG an 7.0RPG at the age of 24. After the age of 25, he would only play 26 more games until retirement. He finished his career averaging 12.9PPG and 5.2RPG. He was very efficient on the offensive end, with a career FG% of 0.545.
WEAKNESSES: Curry struggled with fitness and regularly came into camp out of shape. Even in the seasons where he was a starter, he only once averaged more than 30 minutes per game. He was a poor shot blocker for his size (career 0.7 BPG), and wasn't a good FT shooter (career 64%).
SIGNIFICANT INFO:
- It was discovered early in his career that Curry suffered from a rare heart disease, although he refused further testing. Bulls management demanded Curry take a DNA test, offering an annuity of $400,000 per year for 50 years if he failed it. Curry refused, and the Bulls traded him to the Knicks.
