1. Sydney Kings
Key Player(s): Mark Aguirre/Clyde Drexler
- These two guys fit perfectly together as the swingmen
X Factor (s): Larry Johnson
- How does Larry Johnson fit into a team of stars as the new PF?
Main Weakness: Only issue is that if there is an injury or two in the front court, the team might struggle.
2. San Miguel Beermen
Key Player(s): Patrick Ewing/John Stockton
- These two guys are absolute studs and are at the top of the league in their positions
X Factor(s): Kemp
- Can he be the guy to give this team that 3rd elite player, or will he be just another starter?
Main Weakness: the GM traded away his best 2 shooting guards and needs an elite winger to take the pressure of Stockton when the bigs are getting doubled down.
3. KK Partizan
Key Player(s): Charles Barkley
-Fresh off of winning his first title, the Round Mound will be fighting for another.
X Factor(s): Frank Brickowski
-Can he provide the interior presence defensively this team needs?
Main Weakness: Brickowski is your best shot blocker? A guy like Tree Rollins would have helped...... oh wait!
4. London Towers
Key Player(s): Michael Jordan
- Can he get his first title and put himself among the GOAT's of the league?
X Factor(s): 5th starter
- The team has 4 LEGIT starters, and then a bunch of role players. Their best bet is Jim Price at SG with MJ and Bird at the 3 and 4. His play gives them a solid ball handler and elite perimeter defender who will know his role.
Main Weakness: Needs another starter as Jim Price should not be a starter on a championship team
5. Beijing Aoshen
Key Player(s): Rick Barry/Mychal Thompson
- Can Mychal be 'the guy' in the frontcourt?
X Factor(s): AI/Penny
- Two extremely young starting guards on a veteran team makes this team quite intriguing
Main Weakness:
Floor spacing will be this team issue. Might want to go get a solid backup who can shoot it from anywhere.
6. BC Zalgiris
Key Player(s): Alonzo Mourning
- Can he set himself apart from the rest of the bigs on his team?
X Factor(s): Kevin Garnett
- Does the experiment at SF stop this season? If he is put at 3, expect a major defensive whole there that should be exploitable.
Main Weakness: This team is not at all what a GM would call prototypical. It's an intriguing setup and only time will tell if the idea will work.
7. ALBA Berlin
Key Player(s): Manning/Schmidt
- Manning is an up and coming legit guy while Schmidt has to prove he is more than a stat guy. Together, they make a rock solid front court that will give most teams trouble this season.
X Factor(s): Eddie Jones
- Can he be dangerous enough from outside the arc to give the aforementioned bigs room to work under the basketball?
Main Weakness: This team needs someone to help Eddie if he is not hitting, and turnovers might be a problem no this team. Lets just say that this team will be boring to watch, but will win more than expected because they are committed to locking down defensively.
8. Istanbul Anadulo Efes
Key Player(s): VINKO!!!!!!
- Dude has proven to be one of, if not the, most versatile players in the league.
X Factor(s): Who ever the heck is the SF?
- Seriously, Vinko needs some (<===understatement) help. If the team can find a solid option at the 3, this team could be a headache match up for teams.
Main Weakness: The supporting cast around him is extremely average. The only other guy who is a legit starter on the team is Tiny. How far can Vinko carry this team?
9. Athens Pathanaikos
Key Player(s): George McGinnis
- As his body crumbles, he will need more help from the team from beyond the arc. (see a trending idea with elite teams?)
X Factor(s): How the SF is used and minutes/rotations.
- This is going off the assumption Cliff Robinson and Clifford Robinson are the starting forwards. The team will be fine while starters are in. But the backups mess up the chemistry of the team and McGinnis might find a lot of double downs during that time.
Main Weakness: Lack of 3 point shooting!!!!!! Does anyone want 3 point shooters in Eurasia, wait...... only the top teams do.
10. Tehran Mahram
Key Player(s): Chris Mullen?
- Team is filled with a lot of solid guys that will either gel or fail greatly.
X Factor(s): Hoborov's quickness
- Can he guard a power forward?
Main Weakness: Stopping an athletic power forward will be this team's downfall. This team is the complete opposite of BC Zalgiris. BC though outside the box. Tehran calculated the middle of the box.
11. Bayi Rockets
Key Player(s): Darrall Imhoff/Tim Duncan
- Talk about having an amazing mentor to come into the league. If Duncan wins 1/4 the accolades Imhoff has won, he will easily live up to his draft status.
X Factor(s): Oscar and Jerry West
- They will have to dial back the clock back to prehistoric days for this team to be dangerous. They could do it, yet it just seems highly unlikely.
Main Weakness: So old........ so so old..........
(Up until this point, actual playoff aspirations were attainable)
12. Real Madrid
Key Player(s): Cummings and Sprewell
- Cummings has always been a solid starter. Sprewell has to eventually cash in on the potential he has, or he will be just another guy
X Factor(s): Kevin Johnson
- Can he be a 48 minute guy and is he good enough for a team to want that?
Main Weakness: This team needs a primary ball handler that can tutor KJ for a few years then release the reigns to him.
13. Milano Olympia
Key Player(s): Randy Breuer
- Lets give this guy some recognition for being the glue guy to an otherwise 'meh' team. He deserves better than whatever is waiting this season for him in this team.
X Factor(s): Daneu and Sloan
- Bayi got the good old guys. Milan got their equally old backups. These two guards will have to show some veteran class and leadership to steer this team towards even sniffing the playoffs.
Main Weakness: The youth on this team is uninspiring, and the old guys are as stated, old. This team's former alpha dog, Joe Carroll has morphed into Joe Barely Cares
14. Maccabi Tel Aviv
Key Player(s): Dirk/Havlicek
- Dirk will learn from Havlicek how to be a pro, while providing this team with a new alpha dog for many years to come.
X Factor(s): Who the heck is playing point guard
- They have NO ONE to get the ball past half court.
Main Weakness: AGAIN, They have NO ONE to get the ball past half court.
15. CSKA Moscow
Key Player(s): WES UNSELD
- This guy is the ultimate glue man.
X Factor(s): Johnny Moore
- Does he have it in him to be the 'guy' in this back court?
Main Weakness: They have no one for Wes to glue together.
16. Cairo
Key Player(s): Dell Curry
- He has almost no competition for being best player on team.
X Factor(s): whoever is point guard
- They probably should get one of those......
Main Weakness: The team in general. But they have their own pick so that is a plus.
Key Player(s): Mark Aguirre/Clyde Drexler
- These two guys fit perfectly together as the swingmen
X Factor (s): Larry Johnson
