Pros: If you were to craft the best possible frame for a power forward you'd end up with something like Len Chappell. At 6-8, 250 lbs, and blessed with fantastic leaping ability, Chappell was a nightmare for opposing ACC posts all season. Chappell uses these physical gifts best in the shot blocking department, an area which he should be able to contribute right away. His rebounding game is still in its infancy but no wonder would be surprised to see him emerge as a real monster on the boards. He also possesses rather excellent ball handling skills for a big man, which could come in handy depending on the system he's put in.
Cons: For as good as Chappell is defensively, he seems to get lost on the other side of the floor. The majority of his points come from second chance rebounds, or from well timed hand offs from slashing guards and wings. He has yet to develop a dominant post game, and lacks the ability to back down a defender and create his own shot. While he could always improve in this regard, scouts around the league have been less than excited about this notion. Despite his imposing frame, Chappell is not the strongest player out there, which is also reflected offensively.
Overall: There's a lot to like about Chappell, and GMs are likely going to be very high on his raw size and athleticism. He will also be a presence from the get go through his shot blocking ability. The question is rather he will ever develop into anything more than a one trick pony. Most remain optimistic that dominant rebounding and post defense are just a few years away.
