So, this was announced last night and I was surprised no one posted about it earlier. Kidd retired from playing less than two weeks ago, and he has just been hired as the newest coach of the Nets. While I would guess this is a surprise to everyone, would anyone actually be surprised if Kidd is a success at the job? I've always considered Kidd one of the smartest floor generals in the league, and I think if anyone can make the immediate jump to coaching it would be him. With that being said, would you trust your NBA franchise to someone who has never had one minute of so much as college assistant coaching experience?

Not sure how I feel about this. So many other candidates that haven't had a chance and he gets right up to HC without experience. Never was a big Kidd fan myself, and hate everything about the Nets so whatever

No coaching experience. Its a total different game being a coach and being a player. I hear he's also not a good with people in terms of relationship

Well, Nets weren't gonna lure any good, proven coaches there. It's a risk both ways but everything suggests Kidd will be a great coach. Who knows, Deron and a PG go down... he could sign to a 10 day contract and suit up. Just love the possibility!

There's enough proven coaches out there that are looking for an opportunity but the Nets choose Jkidd. Bad decesion. That Nets team is looking to compete not rebuild

To play devil's advocate, Kidd has a good relationship with Deron Williams (seemingly the top priority for the Nets right now) and has an amazing basketball mind. It seems the decision came down to him or Brian Shaw...of those two, I can't say I'm hugely disappointed in him getting the job. If there were actually considering someone like Hollins or Karl, or even bringing someone with experience like PJ back, it would be different. But Shaw's experience as an assistant coach doesn't really make me think he would have been a safer choice.

^^ Its Hollins not Hollis!
I dont really have a big problem with him getting the head coach job. If he can get a team around him including good assistant coach to help I could see it working, kinda in a similar way to the Warriors and Mark Jackson. Kidd was a smart player he knows how to talk to the current player.

I love it!
He obviously has a good mind for the game. I don't see why this can't work. He's been around a lot of coaches and will have a capable staff. I think Kidd will be a decent head coach and stick around for a while.

Pretty unorthodox signing as the coach fresh out of the NBA, but I've always liked Jason Kidd so I'll be rooting for him. I don't think it's a bad decision necessarily, but certainly a risky one.

I like it. Besides the fact that it's the headline grabber that Prokhorov wanted, Deron Williams has a ton of respect for Kidd which is more than we can say about Avery Johnson and PJ Carlesimo. Kidd always had an excellent basketball IQ so this could work.

Just still don't get this signing with the likes of the Van Gundys out there.

will be interesting to see how this pans out. i think that PG's are the most natural coaches but no prior experience is kind of crazy.
