I thought it would be interesting to look at who makes the most trades in the league. Basically look at who is the most willing to make deals. I decided to only include active gms and eliminate anybody who just got fired or was just hired. So Here we go...
1. Bayi Rockets-133
2. ALBA Berlin-112
3. Cairo Zamalek-90
4. Belgrade KK Partizan-88
5. Tehran Mahram-69
6. New York Knicks-68
7. Beijing Aoshen-66
8. London Towers-64
9. Chicago Bulls-55
10. Real Madrid-53
11. Sydney Kings-48
12. San Antonio Spurs-44
13. Los Angeles Lakers-43
14. Buenos Aires Boca Juniors BC-41
15. Mexico City Titans-39
16. Philadelphia 76ers-35
17. San Francisco Warriors-30
18. Milano Olympia-28
19. BC Zalgiris-24
20. Harlem Globetrotters-20
21. Brazil Franca BC-20
22. Seattle Sonics-20
23. Athens Panathinaikos-19
24. Indiana Pacers-16
25. Istanbul Anadolu Efes-13
26. Washington Bullets-12
27. Tel Aviv Maccabi-11
28. San Miguel-9
29. Boston-1
The average deals made by current gms 43.7
Berlin and Bayi at the top of the list makes sense they are way above everyone in the sheer amount of deals. There is a lot of separation at the top of the list. Bayi is 20 above Berlin who is 20 above Cairo that is 20 above Partizan. Cairo is surprising as he hasn't been in this league for that long, but is already in the top 3. The list is populated with new gms all over the list and winning gms all over the list. There are 12 gms above the average of 43.7 deals. The majority of those 12 have been here since the beginning or had long tenures.
Now lets look how often a gm is involved in a deal. There are 1271 deals between the 29 gms. Obviously there are 2 gms involved in a deal so that is 635. Now we'll look at their total deals divided by 635. This means...
1. Bayi Rockets-20.9%
2. ALBA Berlin-17.6%
3. Cairo Zamalek-14.1%
4. Belgrade KK Partizan-13.8%
5. Tehran Mahram-10.8%
6. New York Knicks-10.7%
7. Beijing Aoshen-10.3%
8. London Towers-10.0%
9. Chicago Bulls-8.6%
10. Real Madrid-8.3%
11. Sydney Kings-7.5%
12. San Antonio Spurs-6.9%
13. Los Angeles Lakers-6.7%
14. Buenos Aires Boca Juniors BC-6.4%
15. Mexico City Titans-6.1%
16. Philadelphia 76ers-5.5%
17. San Francisco Warriors-4.7%
18. Milano Olympia-4.4%
19. BC Zalgiris-3.7%
20. Harlem Globetrotters-3.1%
21. Brazil Franca BC-3.1%
22. Seattle Sonics-3.1%
23. Athens Panathinaikos-2.9%
24. Indiana Pacers-2.5%
25. Istanbul Anadolu Efes-2.0%
26. Washington Bullets-1.8%
27. Tel Aviv Maccabi-1.7%
28. San Miguel-1.4%
29. Boston-0.1%
This means that 1 out of every 5 deals involves Bayi. The top 3 gms on this list Bayi, Berlin, and Cairo account for over half the deals in the league. The top 7 gms are likely to be involved in every deal. In contrast, the bottom 22 on the list are involved in deals the same amount as the top 7.
Now lets just look at who has won previously...
1. ALBA Berlin-112
2. London Towers-64
3. Chicago Bulls-55
4. Real Madrid-53
5. Harlem Globetrotters-20
6. Seattle Sonics-20
7. Indiana Pacers-16
8. Washington Bullets-12
352 total deals
44 deals average
This is more of a measure of tendency rather than making deals to win a championship. The part that jumps out the most is Berlin skews the average big time and almost doubles the next gm. The average is almost the same as the overall gms. There is a big range on the list. The bottom half of the list have had shorter tenures. This shows there isn't a correlation between trading and winning as the numbers are the same between winning gms and the league overall.
