Long run for George Karl..
My first memories of him are coaching the Payton/Kemp/McMillan/Schrempf/Perkins led Sonics.
I thought I heard he had retired, not fired.
Crazy.

The guy was the NBA Coach of the Year...THIS YEAR. It was clear when Ujiri left as GM that the team was looking in a different direction, but to not extend him after all he's done with middling talent is insane. Karl won't be out of work long though...the Clippers, the Raptors and the Grizzlies already have shown interest, and they won't be the only teams sniffing around.

Right a lot of teams have needs. Adelman may retire too, though sounds highly unlikely..
I wonder what other coaches will get a shot this year..

I've heard that Hollis from the Grizzlies is at the top of the list for the Denver job...if that's the case, it could just be as simple as Hollis and Karl flip-flopping jobs.

Was he fired too?

Not yet...Memphis is still deciding on whether or not to bring Hollis back. Rumors are they were waiting to see what Denver did to see if Karl was going to be available.

wow, so the Nuggets have lost both the coach and gm of the year.
Sure he wont have trouble finding another team, I cant believe Grizzlies havent resigned Hollins already personally.

I would have given Karl one more season. Denver has really hit their stride this year and is a few small moves and another season away from being a powerhouse. I think this is a mistake for Denver.

Their loss, I would gladly take him leading our Thunder.

So, Hollis is officially out in Memphis...the coaching carousal keeps on turning in the NBA...

For the record, that makes 6 coaches (and interim coaches) who made the playoffs this year that won't be back with their teams next year. Short of winning a title this year or already holding a handful of rings, does anything guarantee job security for coaches in the NBA?

Sounds like Adelman confirmed he is coming back to the Wolves (via NBATV).
That's the rumor anyway..

George Carl is the Jeff Fisher of Basketball. Always solid but never really any good. Just a middle of road team.

Solid coach but he's had enough chances in Denver and has only gotten the team out of the 1st round one time. I'm sure other teams will offer him a chance to coach so I don't feel too bad. I thought Lionel Hollins got a really raw deal.

I thought both Karl and Hollins got shafted. Karl has a poor record getting out of the first round in Denver, but he did a remarkable job this year with mediocre talent and no star to speak of. Memphis has improved every year under Hollis...both firings make no sense to me.

Hollins was shafted much more then Karl I'd say. It's really a shame that even when you are a good coach who keeps improving all it takes is new ownership to cost you a job cause you aren't "Their" guy

Crazy offseason for the Nuggets. When has a team let go/fired the reigning Coach of the Year and GM of the Year (Ujiri). Their next in line GM (D'Alessandro) came over here to Sacramento as their their Director of Player Personnel. Looks like they have Brian Shaw now. Best of luck to him. Interested to see how their situation pans out.
