Name: Dikember Mutombo
Position: Center
Number: 55
DOB: June 25, 1966
Drafted: 1st Round (4th Pick)
Age when drafted: 24
College: Georgetown
Hometown: Kinshasa, Congo
Height: 7’2”
Weight: 245 lbs
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STRENGTHS: One of the greatest defensive players ever and an elite rim protector with his length, height, quick hands and ability to block and alter shots (career 2.8 bpg) Dikembe is also a brute on the glass averaging 10.3rpg for his career in 30.8mpg including at least 11.4rpg his first 10 years in the league. He shot .518 for his career from the line in part due to relying on put backs (3.2orpg), dunks and high percentage shots. Moves well for his size although is certainly not quick, but is strong despite a wiry frame.
WEAKNESSES: Below average FT shooter (.684), no range offensively, he is not a good passer (1apg for career) and struggles with double teams and turnovers at times (Esp early in career). Also struggles with PF’s average at least 3 per game first 7 years in the league. He developed a crude but effective post game over time. Is not a big leaper although has a quick first leap.
SIGNIFICANT INFO: Nicknamed Deke and Mt. Mutumbo, 4 Time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, 8 Time All Star, All Rookie First Team, 6 Time All Defensive Team (3 Firsts), 3 All NBA Teams (0 Firsts), 37th All time in games played (1196), 4 time NBA Rebounding leader (20th all times), 5 times led league in blocks (2nd All Time), 37th in Personal Fouls, 20th All Time in Total Rebounds, 81st in FTA. Played 18 seasons and missed no major amount of time first decade in league (durable!) Has the greatest urban legend/tee shirt in NBA History (see below)
