Name: Oscar Schmidt Position: PF Height: 6'9" Weight: 230 lbs DOB: 2/16/1999 www.abcalegends.com/players/player582.htmPros: Oscar Schmidt's entry into the draft might be a bit of a surprise, but it is a welcome surprise in a class almost complete devoid of talent at power forward. Schmidt comes into the league with a refined inside shot, a solid defensive presence in the post and the ability to rebound. Even more impressive are what scouts are saying about Schmidt's long term prospects - an elite inside game combined with stellar rebounding. Schmidt isn't ready to knock McHale off his perch as the clear #1 PF in the draft, but is nice to finally have a good second option. Cons: Schmidt is a solid prospect who does most things well in the areas of expertise from a PF, but it doesn't appear he will ever be a strong shot blocker. He also will never be an above average passer, but he won't kill you in that area either, which could be a blessing. Overall: Oscar's announcement of entry into the draft couldn't have been more welcome news for GMs outside of the top 4 picks. Schmidt is the second foreign late entry in the draft (after Sabonis) that has shaken up the mock lotto boards, and he looks like the player who will contribute more quickly. Schmidt isn't ready to knock McHale off his perch as the clear #1 PF in the draft, but is nice to finally have a good second option. Projection: #5-#10

Pros: The Brazilian big man is very ready to play right away. He can post up and get easy buckets. Oscar has the potential to be, maybe not a franchise player, but an option and key offensive contributor. His passing and ball handling are above average for a forward, Oscar won't commit many turnovers and should be good for a couple of assists. Schmidt's ability to rebound is excellent on the defensive end, in contrast he isn't very good at the defensive end. He is very good on the defensive end and shouldn't be a liability. Oscar is a beast athletically, he has above average quickness and vertical leap. He should be able to play big minutes and won't be outmuscled by opposing forwards.
Cons: The biggest flaw for Oscar is his lack of potential on the defensive end, he is still very good, it just limits him to more of an offensive player. Despite his great offensive game, he doesn't have a great jumper and isn't an great free throw shooter. His 6'9" frame is a bit of a knock, right now that isn't an issue but in the coming years he may become undersized.
Overall: Oscar is a solid all-around player; he can score, handle the ball, and defend. This a guy that can start now and put up good numbers. He is already a starter, the question is how good can he be. Oscar is a longshot for a franchise player, but he is a starter and an option. This guy is a no-risk pick, you know what you are getting.
Pick Projection: 6-9 Comparison: Connie Hawkins
