So me and my wife are completely sick of the midwest, the fucking 8 month winters, and constant sinus issues. So we are looking into moving to the West Coast. Preferably either AZ or CA (although we've never been to either) I checked the creepy stalker map from the general forum and the only person CURRENTLY in CA is OG Cairo but I was curious to know about the areas out there if anybody else has been in the past.

I lived in San Jose California for 5 years. It was the best health period of my life, as a chronic asthma and allergy suffer growing up. Now back living in NY and having horrible allergies again it makes me long for a return to CA. Even with the horrific cost of living etc etc.... Bay area is nice.

Any advice on the Sacramento area? Prices don't seem as high there (as in comparable to midwest). I truly just want to find somewhere warm to live where I don't need to worry about being jumped/robbed/murdered on a daily basis

I know that when I was living in San Jose anywhere around the bay area, a small house that was in decent condition went for $500,000-$1.5 million.

Hmmm, the real estate sites I use show a heck of a lot of "fixer-uppers" for under 125k. I am also looking into Phoenix due to crazy cheap housing options

I haven't necessarily lived in either place but do have friends that have migrated to both spots (AZ/CA). I have been to both places multiple times with CA being more often and in different areas.
CA is always beautiful year round and the temps don't fluctuate as much as you'd expect from season to season. Not to generalize people but out there, it seems no one is ever in a rush and that people do their own thing on their own schedule. I personally loved the San Rafael & San Diego areas.
AZ is also beautiful but the temperatures do rise significantly in the summer months. It's a different type of heat out there but if you want consistent high temp, instead of a stable 70-80, this is probably your best bet.
One thing I would highly suggest you look into is the laws for each state before even considering real estate pricing.

Yeah, as much as I am sick of renting I think we'll be looking for apartments in good areas

San Diego was amazing. We lived in one of the less expensive areas since my dad was navy and chose to live off base. The only safety concern for us was mountain lions since we were in the valley. They like to roam down in the valley from time to time so don't leave pets unattended outside and if you see one approaching you, get in your car and start honking. They hate the loud noise and run away, and you also alert other people.

In the Bay Area you get all sorts of temperatures. In San Diego it is like a dream all the time. Northern California is wet and colder. Napa Valley or Sacramento is hot as balls and then mild but not midwest winter cold.

Thanks for the info. I may be leaning more towards Phoenix at this point. Centrally located and can still visit California and drive up to Vegas for weekends. May still keep my eyes on Cali, my lease isn't up until September but I want to have things figured out sooner rather then later

Where I am from if you say SODA or SODA POP, people will look at you weird and then ask if you are from the south or something.

I just thought it was a weird comment. I had said the word pop once while playing online on the Dreamcast and the guys I was playing with asked where in the midwest I was from. I just assumed you labeled the crap based on where you're from with Soda being the southern phrasing for it.

No I just felt like pointing it out since I don't hear it much. But I was aware it was a Midwest thing haha
