I was thinking about this today. Players that I just can't stand for some reason or another. Made me think about Johns brother hating Peyton Manning for no real reason, that made me sad LeBron James: I hate him, he seems so phony to me. He's a fine player, but I don't put alot behind guys who just lower their shoulder and run into defenders. Also anybody who nicknames themselves out of High School deserve more pain then I could ever distribute. James Harden: Hated him as a Thunder, still can't stand him. Same as LBJ his whole game is mostly lowering his head and running into guys. When he isn't being bailed out by refs, he looks horrible. Eli Manning/John Elway: Same reason, refusing to play for teams that draft them. Just isn't right.

I'll second Harden even though he's not my #1 choice.
I can't stand Kendrick Perkins. He learned the fake tough guy shtick from KG who is, by far, my least favorite athlete. Just has a history of picking on guards and foreigners. Once you stand up to him like Peeler and Pachulia did, he backs down like a bitch.
Hate, hate, hate Mayweather. Cocky piece of shit. Great boxer but he's just a complete asshole.
Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and Reggie Evans also annoy the fuck out of me with the constant flopping.

I forgot about Kendrick Perkins. I hate Sam Presti for trading for that piece of crap!

I don't hate athletes unless they've done something awful. We don't know shit about them in real life - just what we see in games and through whatever awkward media portrayal is drummed up for television. Our view of athletes is tainted by team allegiance and a superficial view of their personality.
Hating Lebron is cool, I guess, but no one can give me any real reason outside of things like "he has a crab dribble" or "he seems like a wuss" or other subjective slight. I'd rather watch a superior basketball player make the rest of the league look like a YMCA pickup team and root against him than harbor some weird ill feelings toward him because I didn't like The Decision or some bad choice he made as an 18-year-old.
You don't like someone like Garnett becuase he's an asshole to opponents? That's cool. There are people on your favorite team that are assholes to opponents. It's not a unique trait of one player, but a common trait among all players on all teams.
(Not calling you out specifically on that, NY. I hear that from a lot of people.)
We hate certain players until they end up on our favorite team. We love one person but hate the next for doing the same thing. One calls it heart, the other antagonism. We call people a pussy because they're not coming back from injury, despite the fact that we have no real insight into their real life, their condition, their personal struggles.
Anyway. I'm going back to not posting things on the board.

Andrew Bynum - that guy is a punk. Cheap shots people all over the place. He's a bully.
Kobe - whatever happened in Colorado really turned me off on Kobe Bryant. I respect his game but I don't respect him as a person.

I'm going back to not posting things on the board. To me, there's a difference between sports hate and personal hate. When I say that I hate an athlete, I don't mean that I wish bad on them in real life. It just means that they're the ones I vehemently root against. I'm also a Spurs fan and Duncan is my favorite player, so that contributes to my KG hate. And if it's true about what KG said to Duncan in 1999 on Mother's Day (the infamous "Happy Mother's Day" remark [Duncan's mom died the day before Mother's Day when he was a teen]) then that makes him even more despicable.

I respect his game but I don't respect him as a person. I'll second Bynum. For what you said and also he seems like an immature jerk-off who takes nothing seriously. As for Kobe, if he truly did what he was accused of, I agree. However, I'm not 100% convinced that it wasn't consensual. Very easy for a groupie to come out (especially a seemingly innocent white girl) and make an accusation. I'm not saying it didn't happen but I'm not ready to condemn Kobe without finding out with 100% certainty that it wasn't consensual.

I agree about Kobe (we don't know what happened) but I kind of hated him before that so it was easy to allow that to take me the rest of the way. Though, he was married when that happened. So that's enough for me.

Agreed about the adultery aspect. However, if we dislike athletes for adultery, then we have much more hate to spread. Kobe happened to get caught. Without any knowledge of the subject, I'd still say that at least 90% of athletes cheat on their significant others.

Derrick Rose - Doesn't even seem like he's showing any interest in returning.
LeBron James - I just hate him. All he does is dunk, throw alley oops and get alley oops. He is so overrated. Shouldn't have won the 08-09 MVP. Wade averaged 30 pts 5 rebs 5 ast and 2 stls and didn't get MVP. Pretty sure he averaged 0.8 bpg atleast knowing Wade.

There are a lot of (justified) reasons to hate LeBron, but saying that he's overrated and that all he does is "dunk, throw alley oops, and get alley oops" is absurd. And this is coming from a Wizards fan, so I am closer to "dislike" side of the LeBron fence.
