Boston Trades: Elgin Baylor
KK Trades: #3 Pick
And
Towers Trade: Wilt Chamberlain
Lakers Trade: #1 overall pick Duarte Noble
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two similar trades - thought we'd have some conversation about it for those who missed anything in the Skype chat.
Time will tell honestly...Alot of value thrown around and noone got robbed.
London- if hes able to steal someone in FA, and turn those firsts into another stud it will be another strong turnaround.
Lakers- Can they build around Wilt fast enough? Sounds like a Huskies V2 story
Boston- also gonna be judged by FA and how quick they can bring back Boston to contention.
KK- Added a cornerstone to two solid rebuilding pieces.
London/LA: I'll give the nod to London. Wilt's been traded multiple times for great packages each time. But he is 28 now and you have to think he's peaked. London managed to ship him out, again, at the perfect time for the perfect return. Keep in mind that other players that are in the 29-32 range in this league right now, even superstars, aren't worth very much. LA is really going to have to work to add pieces to Wilt.
Belgrade/Boston: I'll give this one an even. Baylor's incredible, but he has some of those leftover creation draft-type of ratings. He's not a great shooter, passer, rebounder, or post defender. If he were more well-rounded, he might warrant Moses or Dr. J. But he's still young and possibly improving, and Boston has no guarantee that Gervin will be nearly as good. I think it was perfect value for both teams, so I didn't vote on this one.
I wouldn't mind an even option here. For my trade, it will come down to free agency and development. I LOVED Baylor, but he never seemed to do enough for me like Madrid said. These newer rookies come in and put up monster numbers as rookies. I saved a ton of money and have for the first time financial room to make alot of moves. Resigning Lucas alone still will leave me with over 30 million in capspace and a lineup of Reed/Lucas/Ellis/Gervin/Brody isn't far behind if not almost as good as I ran last season minus free agency.
I liked the trades for London and KK, mixed feelings for LA, and didn't like it for Boston.
Wow.
I don't understand this from LA perspective. Adding wilt to a roster devoid of talent makes no sense to me. He also got Wilt and not Hayes, who's more expensive and older. He also speeds up the clock on his rebuild and will now need to hope he can find additional pieces to add to Wilt. London prolongs his window and will now have Hayes next to Moses or Dr J. Love this for them.
As for the other deal, i think it's fairly even but think getting Gervin on a rookie deal is more ideal than paying 20mil for Baylor. Baylors teams have constantly underperformed but I can see why PartiZAn wants him. Personally I prefer Gervin because of youth/contract but you can't go wrong trading #3 for the top SF in the game.
This for both. LA needs alot to go right for this to pan out. The difference between this and last year with San Antonio is that they had pieces around the talent they got. Plus they got talent at multiple starter roles versus just one. LA needs to lure free agents, and after this season who would want to go there AND he has to resign Wilt for 20+ million if he doesn't want to lose him. I would have rather just drafted a 20 year old Moses if I wanted a big. For my deal, Sydney sees what I did. Baylor consistently did nothing to help me advance in the playoffs and while he is a scorer he didn't add anything else to the team. Gervin will give me scoring and a giant amount of capspace to go after the many FAs, Max Z, West, Don, Imhoff, etc..
I don't see why everyone automatically thinks its gonna take a ton of money to resign Wilt. He resigned for less last time, he could do it again. His greed is extremely low.
I feel like the poll should have been set to give us two opportunities to vote.
My issue is you got a player who's in his prime and your team is not even remotely close to being a contender. You have a window of 4 years with Wilt while he's in his prime, which is a lot but unless you have some corresponding moves to go with this, you have no other talent to surround him with. You could have drafted Moses who in 2-3 yeArs when you have pieces surrounding him, will be just as good as Wilt, cost 5 mil and you should be able to retain for another 7+ years. I don't foresee any issues with you retaining Wilt at a decent price. My qualms are simply with the fact that you are now in the same position as Toronto when he had Wilt.
I like the trades for London and KK, it should be interesting to see what else both teams add this offseason.
I feel like the poll should have been set to give us two opportunities to vote. Was intentional as I felt they were similar in nature and done very close together - wanted a sense of who "won" the most. Even if you want to say two people did well, surely you think one did a little better. Anyways I vote London - not to say Wilt is anywhere near declining, but to get a #1 pick for him at this stage with that age and contract is excellent.
Of course I voted myself. As if that shocks anyone. Only team I don't 100% like it for is Lakers though. Even then... tough to argue against getting the best player in the game.
I've been saying I want to win over 101 games in the next 2 seasons (KK won 101 in 1st 5 combined) and Elgin gives me that chance without mortgaging the future. It is time to back up my talk.
