So I was just thinking about old school NBA when I was reading an article with quotes from Charles Smith about this Rodman N. Korea game and realized how much I miss rivalries in the NBA.
Todays NBA is overloaded with Lebron style guys who want to be buddies and be social media popular. I can't think of any real rivalries outside of maybe Chicago/Miami.
I want to go back to hand checking and disdain.
Pistons v. Bulls JVG v. Alonzo Mourning 90's Knicks v. Everybody Shaq v. Kings Old School guys who ruffed you up: Oakley, Mason, Laimbeer (well any Piston back then), Stockton & Malone, Rodman.
Oh the memories.
You guys think there will ever be a time where physical angry basketball returns? Or is it gone thanks to shit officiating and the need for a higher scoring product?

Speaking of Rodman, did anyone see him lose his mind on CNN today?

I don't know, there are still the occasional physical rivalries. The Clippers/Warriors have gotten into it the past couple meetings, and with Griffin basically calling the Warriors cowards, things will likely be even more chippy next time around.

Not really a rivalry but it seems everyone hates the Clippers. The Pelicans vs Clippers always results in Tech's. Between CP3 leaving franchise and Griffin bein a pussy... yeah. It happens. Especially when the pussy slayer Jason Smith plays!

Hmmm, forgot about Blake Griffin. Maybe NBA guys just don't like Blake because all he is is a dunk. All flash, no substance. Serge Ibaka is usually pretty calm, but I envision him throwing a spear through Blake the next time they play

There will more than likely never be the phyiscal basketball of the past because of my issues. From the cost of players salaries to the protection practices of athletes in the current sports world. When I was young a full on tackle was just a foul, now if you hardly contact a player in the wrong way it is flagrant two.
Because of lawsuits, concussion awareness in football, hockey and basketball I don't see that happening again. My multiple concussions wouldn't mind a more physical game!
I miss the Bill Laimbeers, the Charles Oakleys and even Bruce Bowen.
Plus the game has changed to value speed.

I think Griffin/Z-Bo is a great matchup nowadays. Specially because Z-bo has cleaned the floor with Blake in the last couple of seasons. I want to see this again... it's the only reason I want Memphis to qualify for the playoffs lol

As a Knicks fan I miss these rivalries...and the Knicks being relevant.

I remember watching the Bulls- Pistons rivalry the Knicks and Bulls those were the good old days of the NBA. As far as Melo I think if I remember right the Lakers would go and try to sign him to play along side the player a shell of his former self Kobe.

It would seem only fitting to have Melo end up with D'Antoine again wouldn't it? Melo could kill his coaching career twice in one lifetime!

In Melo's defense... Mike D never was an elite coach... he used his gimmick offense to win regular season games and get destroyed in playoffs.

I totally agree with this...I don't like the new handchecking rules etc. Defense is a lost art in the NBA and recently in college as well.

I don't think Mike D's method is necessarily unable to win the playoffs. He hasn't really had the personnel since Phoenix to run it...I think he chose poorly with LA but i suppose it's hard to turn that job down. Choosing Amare & NY made sense at the time.

One of those for stupid reasons. 2) I don't think he's an excellent coach, but I think his system can work, especially with good defensive assistants 3) Reply to this quick cuz I am 3 posts from 1000!

Truth is, and his players have said it, that they don't practice defense as much. SMH 3) I was about to make a comment on this since I've seen your spamming!! LOL

1) He won 2 series twice, and always 3. Not many teams do win 4 series. Doesn't mean they can't 2) Winning is winning, defense is just one component but I do agree that it's important. Limiting possessions is a matter of style. Practicing defense is not, and that's a flaw. 3) 1000 POSTS!!!!!!!!

Champs play D. Dallas had to adjust and get Chandler to get one. 3) Congrats... still way below my level.

1) meant to write almost 3 2) Defensive is a strong correlation with winning...but I don't think his system means there can't be no defense. I just think he doesn't know how to ALSO teach it. He needs help, or someone needs to learn/use his offense. 3) I have ~500 posts per title...you?
