Leslie Frazier in Minnesota, Mike Shanahan in Washington and Rob Chudzinski in Cleveland have already been fired in the usual house cleaning day each season for NFL head coaches. Of the three announced so far, Chudzinski is the only one I think who didn't get a fair shot, as Cleveland was clearly building for the future, the coach did the most he could with the crap ass talent he was given and he was still cut loose after just one year. Anyone disagree? Anyone think there will be more firings? I wouldn't be shocked if Joe Philbin gets axed in Miami after the combination of the Incongnito-Martin scandal and the Dolphins end of the season collapse for one...

Hopefully Garrett goes today as well

8 coaches were fired last year, and Kubiak was let go a couple weeks ago, so it's unlikely we lose as many as 8 again this year, but there are quite a few maybes today: Garrett in Dallas, Munchak in Tennessee, Schwartz in Detroit, Allen in Oakland, Schiano in Tampa Bay (though I haven't heard the drum beating nearly as much as a few weeks ago).
Also, is this the year that Tom Coughlin finally gets let go in NY, or does he just have too much good will from his two Super Bowl wins to get let go for a mediocre season? Will it take a Shanahan-like 3-13 season for him to ever get the boot?

As someone living in the area, Coughlin getting fired would be an absolute shocker. It seems as if they will let him go out on "his terms" granted that could mean they force him to retire to save face, but I don't see the Mara/Tischs firing him

And just like that, Schiano goes down.

And just like that, Schiano goes down. He had to. Hasn't won at all. Isn't a good face for the South Florida style. Doesn't seem well liked or respected among his peers due to crappy shenanigans.

Not shocked Leslie Frazier was fired but I do believe he has what it takes to be a successful head coach in the NFL.
He had 3 years of shitty, shitty QB play. Personally, I'd have fired the coordinators and kept him but it makes sense.
Vikes have been linked to 2-3 coaches in the last few weeks so we'll see how that plays out.

Thank god they finally cut him loose. I don't think he has what it takes to be a HEAD coach. Assistant maybe. He didn't have to stick with Ponder all the way til it was his job. All he needed was an accurate QB to hand the ball off to Peterson and that was it. I think with the mix of old and youth that the Vikings had they just need new voices everywhere. They will most likely lose at least 2-3 quality defenders to free agency unless they bring in some amazing coach that these guys would want to play for (Lovie Smith maybe?) Would have been a nice rebuild had they decided to phone it in the last couple meaniningless wins they got and had the chance at a franchise QB at the top of the round and use Cassell or the next season or two. Schwartz had to go. That team has too much talent to be .500. He just seemed lost at times. Getting a veteran good coach could be what this team needs to be a perennial playoff team.

We were talking about this in chat...both the Detroit and Houston jobs are great gigs for the right head coach. Both teams are loaded with talent, they just need someone to point them in the right direction.

"Quality defenders" I'm not so sure about. Yes, there is a very good chance Jared Allen and Kevin Williams play elsewhere but both are running fumes and there is a lot of talk that Allen might only look good to a contender who wants a 3rd down pass rusher. It's what he is at this point of his career. Same with Williams. He's been in the league since the 90's. He's old and broken down. The best part of all of that is that Allen costs us 17.5 mil and Williams is a huge cap hit as well. Shedding them means being players in the FA market. The offense (save QB) is set and very good so the focus will be on defense and a starting QB. Personally, I don't see Lovie Smith here. I think they'll go after a college coach like O'Brien from Penn. They've been linked to him for weeks now. There were a few others, but it sounds like they aren't necessarily looking for a vet NFL coach.

Think O'Brien is a lock to Houston tbh... He gets to pick his college QB of the litter.

I hope ESPN is reaching saying that Vikings could go for Adam Gase or Jack Del Rio. Sick of seeing the Broncos coaches getting poached after each season

Sick of seeing the Broncos coaches getting poached after each season I think you are out of luck on Del Rio at least...a former head coach with his credentials who did as well as he did filling in for John Fox on an interim basis this season? I'd be shocked if he didn't get a gig somewhere this year, if not in MN.

To be fair, I'm ok losing Del Rio. It's Gase that I don't want to see go. I could have coached that team to a 2-1 record when Fox was out. I still think Denver has a better defense then he coaches out there week to week. We only lost Dummervil from a season ago and added alot of good pieces in the offseason but now we can't stop a breeze most days. It feels like we cause no turnovers until the game is already in the bag but maybe it's because anything less then Super Bowl is a letdown at this point

O'brien told some 5 star defensive tackle that he wasn't leaving, so that'll be interesting if it turns out to be a lie.

Yeah everything is pointing towards O'Brien and the Texans. Great job as long as they get a real QB

O'Brien is definitely worth a chance in Houston. They need a couple of receivers to compliment Megatron and a QB wouldn't help as I'm not sold on Stafford.

Wait? Are we talking Texans or Lions here? I meant Texans need a QB, Lions are fine with Stafford if put with a coach that doesn't blow goats.

So O'Brien got the Texans job (as expected) and Lovie Smith gets the Tampa Bay job before Schiano's seat was even cold...who is next to get hired? And is there a chance that anyone else is still going to get fired? It sounds like the Dolphins might hold on to Philbon while jettisoning Ireland the GM and some assistants, but I'm not 100% sold that he's safe after their "review" is done...
