That's the rumor in MN.
David Kahn has been terminated and Flip Saunders is in as the new GM of the Timberwolves.
Nothing confirmed though yet.

I liked Flip as a coach Ok, but as a GM? I mean he has had no success anywhere except for that stretch with KG/Spree/Cassell for a couple of seasons. Other then that what has he done to deserve a GM spot? Seriously, I don't know his qualifications

I've always liked Flip. (Hell, I still think Dwayne Casey was a real good coach who got the shaft, but anyway..)
I think he'd have been connections/relationships in the NBA than Kahn does.
He'll be welcomed with open arms by me.

B.S. how they let Kahn go without seeing how the team played fully healthy. Kahn, not Saunders, hired Rick Adelman. Kahn drafted Rubio. Kahn extended Kevin Love. Most importantly, Kahn traded for Darko and managed to make him the focal point of the offense by convincing coach Rambis to run the offense through him. Sure, he's had some bad draft picks (Flynn, Johnson, trading Lawson on draft night) and transactions (Beasley), but he's done some things right. I'd love to claim he got Pekovic, but knowing Twolves fans are on here I'd get called out in a minute. Saunders couldn't coach the Pistons; he couldn't coach the Wizards. How many more opportunities will he get in the league? Yeah, it's a GM position, but still...talk about overrated. My God. EDIT: He also promised to play Darko when he was hired; instead, Darko sat on the bench AGAIN. Hope the rumor isn't true.

Not to mention, if you need a GM why not go for broke. I mean the Cavs were trying to draw Phil. Let him run your team and put him with Adelman for the greatest team in coaching/GM history!!!

He wasn't taken in the first round because of contract issues. We had the 1st pick in the second and took him. Any team would have done the same. It was the worst kept secret on the internet. Also, to clarify, the Wolves traded the PICK that was Lawson. They didn't select him and decide to trade him to someone else in the league (int his case Denver). Instead, Denver called, said "we want #21" Wolves said "sure" and then Lawson was selected by Denver. It was a great pick. Kahn didn't lose him though, he never had him, wasn't his pick. It was Denvers. The Rubio trade was great though but he's been hanging his hat on that forever. Re-signing Love to a 3-4 year deal might be a big blunder or a great move depends on what happens with Rubio.

Then again, I love Kahn for saving Darko and his Manna from Heaven comment.

That was taken out of context. CWebb blew it up too for no reason.

Kahn was fired today.
Sounds like Flip is the favorite for the job. I think it's an upgrade for sure.
Also another major Wolves announcement coming up. Sounds like Glen Taylor sold (part of?) the team to someone. We'll see.

Taylor selling the team? How about the Seattle Wolves?

No..
He said he'd only sell to locals who'd keep it here.
Sounds like its not that anyway. That'll be something they phase in over the next 5 years. Couple interested parties.

Saunders looks like the type to pick his nose and eat it. So he's about 2 levels over Kahn.

Id like to say I could care less about this but Im not a huge Kahn fan. Other then that I could care less haha. Adleman and the team we have is good enough for me, Saunders better try to keep Pek though. He'd be dumb not to.

Coaching and GMing are completely different. Well with other candidates out there (I mean Phil took a consulting job in Detroit for fucks sake) why settle for somebody who wasn't able to figure out youth at any of his stops. His best seasons featured a not as young KG, Spree and ET. I just figure that you look around before just going back to what is known in your community. Maybe he proves people wrong, but unless this guy knows how to keep Love from becoming a Laker someday he's set up to lose.
