I don't think it's as bad for the Spurs as people think,
Brody has the potential to be Wilkens with a better offensive game and he's 2 years younger. I prefer Cosic to Hawkins by a lot and he's also 3 years younger. Grabowski will help Tehran but he's nothing to cry over. So how I view this, Spurs get their pick back (always has a high ransom) and get 2 players a combined 5 years younger with better potential. It's a risk but I applaud him for taking it.
Tehran gets the ready now prospects that don't have the higher ceiling but a signficantly lower floor. They lose a Spurs pick, which would have been lotto and also their future first. It's an interesting move, I'm very curious to see how it turns out in 2 years when we can actually grade it.
Overall, Even.

Not sure where I put myself on this one. I originally liked it more for Tehran, but Sydney's reasoning made me lean more towards even.

It comes down to the spurs pick.. if it turns into a top 3 its a great deal, if not hes banking on Brody and Cosic and im not sure i like that quite as much

it doesnt look like Cosic is gonna pan out, but its still solid for the Spurs. I love Wilkens, but Tehran paid a solid price there

Spurs Trade: Lenny Wilkens (maxed out and not sure he is a Top 10 PG) Connie Hawkins (good potential, if he reached, he could be a difference maker on offense) Joe Grabowski (filler, decent big)
Tehran Trades: Kresmir Cosic (all potential, we haven't seen many people like him reach full potential so scary) Tal Brody (borderline starter who has flamed out) Spurs 2017 1st (should be top 10 now) Tehran 2019 1st (jury is out)
Basically. This boils down to Spurs getting younger and taking some serious risks. Lenny doesn't hold as much REAL value as people say he does (told y'all). Connie could be solid and Joe is meh.
Because Tehran gets one sure thing and points his team in an obvious direction, he slightly wins. Spurs are just out there looking like they don't have a plan.

I love Wilkens, but Tehran paid a solid price there lol Cosic has been in the league 1 season and is 20 years old...how can we possibly know if he will pan out yet? The guy has world beater potential and for me is a bigger piece of the puzzle than the Spurs 1st, which is a crap shoot at this point. Do I love the deal for the Spurs? Not particularly, especially since I know what was available to them elsewhere. That being said, I think the deal was even.

People say the same shit about Hondo (but to a lesser degree) until I remind them that he's like 21 and younger than almost all the rookies who were just drafted.

We just havent seen many, if any of those raw guys loaded with potential really improving. Yeah I realize its only 1 season, my comment may have been rushed, but were 3 seasons into this new league now, name me one raw guys with high ceiling that really improved?

In all seriousness, I think Tehran wins by a little since his guys are going to help him right now. I was only willing to take the risk with Cosic and Brody because I was getting my pick back. Those guys have higher ceilings than Lenny and Connie so it was worth the risk to me. Plus I'm hoping to get an upgrade in before TC on Cosic, so I'm hoping that'll speed things up with him.

Yeah Hondo is pretty good. Korac too.
Didn't Howell turn out pretty good too?
Zubkov is a work in progress (might just suck - who knows) and lord knows there are a few others out there who haven't panned out but it's not a sure fire bomb since he's only 20.

The "Who didn't pan out" discussion starts and ends with
Vladimir Pistelak
When talking about 'world beater' potential, he was the posterchild. Consistently scouted as B/B/B/B/A/B/B (inside/outside/ft/3pt/handles/passing/defense) and having the A fluctuate between handles and inside scoring (meaning sometimes it was A/B/B/B/B/B/B), I've come to the realization he'll never pan out. And so far, it looks like that'll happen.

Hondo didnt have bad ratings to start with. Korac, I might agree on that one.

I don't think Cosic is a bust, he's only had 1 tc. Before I made the trade I looked into previous players development and didn't see anybody with his attributes make that large of an advancement. Most of the rookies with C attributes have low potential in that area, that hasn't stopped people from reaching their potential. I haven't noticed anybody reach their high potential with low attributes, so we'll have to see how he does.
