THREE SISTERS, MANITOBA - So which is the best division in the league? Is it a Champions’ Row lineup like the EuroWest or NorthEast, where three of the four teams hold championships? Is it the West, the only division with two two-time champions (and, yes, a third champion in San Francisco, I guess.) Or could a crazy person even make the case for a division like the Far East, where several up-and-coming teams will be fighting for their first championship?
It doesn’t matter, because this season we’re going to find out once and for all.
“I’d like to introduce, finally, the first ever Hall of Fame Division Championship Tournament,” Hall of Fame Commissioner Corey Vilhauer announced before a crowd of hundreds last night at the Three Sisters VFW. “Eight teams, eight GMs, one division that can call itself the Hall of Fame Division Champion.”
The tournament, which will take part around All Star Weekend, will serve as the finale of a 28-game schedule, where each team will play each other four times. The top six teams (top two seeds get a bye) will battle for supremacy, with the champion claiming the prestigious Hall of Fame Division Champion trophy.
And, each team within the winning division will receive 250PP.
“We really think the GMs that are going to take this on are some of the best each division has to offer,” Vilhauer mentioned. “John and I have excused ourselves - being league commissioner and tournament commissioner, respectively - but we are confident in the abilities of the GMs we have chosen to represent each division.”
Eurasian:
EuroWest - Berlin ALBA
EuroEast - Belgrade KK Partizan
Middle East - Cairo Zamalek
Far East - Sydney Kings
American:
Northeast - New York Knicks
Central - Toronto Raptors
West - San Francisco Warriors
South - Mexico City Titans
Each team will choose twelve players, set lineups, and be responsible for updating rosters based on trades within the league.
“We want things to be accurate throughout - and, we want to build division camaraderie - so we want every decision made within the division to reflect on the tournament,” Vilhauer said. “If I trade Tim Duncan out of the division, I want that to be reflected. If London trades me Michael Jordan for, like, I don’t know, a 2nd, I want that to be reflected.”
The tournament will begin right before the first sim of the season, and should conclude during All Star Weekend.
