This came up on slack but I am going to do some gm rankings, similar to what the artist now known as Phil Jackson has done in the past with player rankings. It is early in the process so please add your thoughts. The guidelines I am thinking about so far are: Individual rankings in:
These will lead to a overall ranking for each GM, maybe you should get to rank overall also? There will also be a section for comments. All trolls and won't be published and will be anonymous in the final article Thinking about not including self assessments so team's cannot fudge their own numbers. AKA you vote yourself top notch in everything, Scaling would be 1.0 - 10.0 and I would develop some criteria as guidelines Example: 8.0+ exceptional, among the best in the league at that particular area
7.0 -7.9 Above average, very competent in the area
5.0-6.9 Average In area
3.5-5.0 Below average in area
0.0 - 3.4 Needs improvementOpen to all suggestions and feedbacks for any and all parts of this. Post em up or hit me up with em

I like it...will you be including just current GMs, or will "important" former GMs be included? For example, former Chicago (I'm not calling him anything else) has two rings...Dave has one...former PartiZan has one...will they get the same attention as say, the guys who have been here less than a season?

Sure why not As an aside that just popped into the ole noggin, I can pull the information easily I will put in a little Bio about each GM (career record or season by season record) Not sure how easy that will be for the guys that move around a ton or the guys not in the league and haven't looked in game yet

Scott in ABCA Finals", "Roark has an ABCA playoff winning percentage of .115".)...I'm sure there are lots of tidbits from vets we can throw in for you.

I bet this ends up being really fun. There are some GMs who are clear cut at the top but where others fall or perception of others will be the most intriguing part.

Cause definitely not EVER, but here...maybe. Depends what you think about REAL as a GM I guess... #rivalry

Really, though, I expect to be pretty low on most of these rankings. I'd like to think I'm pretty good at game planning and team building (usually do well with what I have and the pieces seem to fit), but the whole talent assessment/acquisition thing has really killed me.

I've been soliciting people for screenshots over the last season or two, so I think that's helped (although I probably shouldn't have traded Sprewell for Ray Allen).

I mean Seattle and NY seem to be the best at finding hidden gems in the league and both their scouts are great at scouting potential and terrible at scouting current. BTW this post is mainly so I don't get a 0 in Activity/Social Ranking like I'm sure I will get.

I'm guessing Seattle does too...as long as GMs are willing to pass around passwords to look at players through different scouts perspectives, it doesn't much matter if you get a scout that only focuses on one of the two metrics...as long as your buddy focuses on the other.

Between this and just asking GMs that have done well consistently what they think of players is crucial. Not every player you're going after but other players to compare to those. Gives you a good judgement of who is valued around the league.

Lol I love that Plossl claims I have access to half the scouts in the league. I couldn't list 5 GMs who I have the passwords of. Some GMs without the game (or with the game but don't have access to their computer) have given me their password so I can get them screenshots but outside that not sure where it's coming from that I have everyone (or even half the league's) passwords lol. Now the second point of seeing players through other scout's eyes is true as i've asked GMs like LA, Seattle, San Fran, and Sydney in the past what they think of certain players and they've either told me or sent me screenshots (which I don't think is a big deal since most GMs in this league have at one point or another asked someone else what they think of a player).
Also to answer your question San Antonio, scouts don't make a huge difference even when it comes to league scout. There will be differences obviously but it's not hard to get a general idea of how good (or bad) a player is. To be honest when I look through the players post TC to spot jumps and drops (which i've been pretty accurate with) I spot most of them with league scout before even opening the game.

Yeah like I said ill participate, do think you should weigh activity less compared to other things bc yeah we want everone to be super active on the boards and skypee/slack but its not a determining factor in how good of a GM the person is. I also think teams filling this out will already be more inherently biased towards more active GMs
