Hey, y'all.
Let's all admit - Skype sucks. It kills mobile batteries. It is buggy and laggy. It smells like an old man's balls.
I'd like to move to Slack, which is a much better (and more modern) that we've started using instead of Skype at work. It's kind of a mix between Skype and the old IRC/chat room model. You can have a general feed of bullshit like we have now, but it's super easy to create extra rooms for different subjects - a #trade room and a #wrestling room, etc. You can view or hide rooms as you like. Direct messages are easier, you can create mini-groups, the committee could have a private room, and you can embed stuff in-line.
And the emoji set is better.
Give me your email and I'll invite you to the ABCA room. We can play around with it and see if we like it, but I think it really is a much better solution.

Slack is amazing.
I'm fully on board to moving to Slack, most people in the league probably have smart phones anyway.

Can people rationally read Corey's message, explore Slack.com a little and then decide if there's really ANY reason at all to continue with Skype?
I just forsee a lot of people saying no because they don't like change and/or didn't bother to read the post or explore the site. That would be dumb - I hate those people.
Anyways I'm down. Skype is bad on computers, horrible on phones.

Another great thing about Slack: No need to figure out who is who and what username and add people and delete people to your Slack if they leave/arrive as GMs. There will be 30 people, and those 30 people will be it.

Those of you that aren't on Skype..like TelAviv, REAL, etc..I'd highly recommend you download this.
Especially the teams who don't have the game. It's so much easier to send you screenshots etc.

I have officially sent an invite to all 32 teams, BUT those invites are based on the email you have on file on the boards. So. That means if your Proboards email is incorrect or bad or whatever, you didn't get an invite.

I've never had an issue with skype like some of you seem to have but I'll check this out and go from there. Same...Skype has been good to me for the most part, and I've never had this "battery drain" issue some of you seem to have...if everyone else switches, I'll clearly jump, but I do use Skype for other things, so I won't be on as much.

I've never had an issue with skype like some of you seem to have but I'll check this out and go from there. You've never had lag in the chat on a Smartphone? That's surprising.. Of the maybe 10+ smartphones I've had since installing Skype for ABCA I've always run into lag. Battery drain USED to be a massive skype issue - well known, worldwide, acknowledged by Skype and Microsoft - the newer releases have resolved a lot of that though. (I work for a telecom company)

Yeah I'd have to agree with Plossl with the battery drain thing, it was never an issue I had. As for lag I may have been the only gm to not deal with it in either of the Skype chats we had. If I did it wasn't something major that was really noticeable.
But like I said I'm down to give Slack a go. There's definitely some things I prefer on Skype so far but Slack seems solid enough that if we move towards it as a league I'm fine with it.

LOVE the different rooms... was nice to enter the sim room and quickly see how the live sim went without scrolling through all the other mess
